šŸļø Sometimes the best rides are the ones that donā€™t go according to plan.

Last month, I jumped on the Harley with a plan: ride PCH all the way north to see my boys in Depoe Bay, Oregon and Berkeley, California.

The ride was incredible. Made it through Big Sur and was heading toward Santa Cruz when, while shifting gears, I suddenly felt a SNAP at the clutch lever. The handle went completely looseā€”no tension and basically no clutch.

So what do you do? Keep riding. šŸ˜‚

I started shifting without the clutch, trying to make it toward the city while praying I wouldnā€™t have to come to a complete stop before finding somewhere safeā€”preferably a Harley-Davidson dealership.

Of courseā€¦it was Sunday. Most Harley dealers were closed.

Eventually traffic started slowing down and I had no choice but to get off the freeway. I pulled over, took out my tools and started trying to figure out what happened.

One of the coolest parts of the whole experience was seeing how many fellow riders stopped to check on me and offer a hand. Thatā€™s something Iā€™ll always appreciate about the motorcycle community.

We quickly figured out this wasnā€™t going to be a roadside repair.

AAA eventually got me over to House of Thunder Harley-Davidson in Morgan Hill, and I have to give those guys creditā€”they were awesome and really tried to get me back on the road.

Diagnosis: snapped clutch cable.

Normally an easy fixā€¦except the part wasnā€™t in stock and they were looking at a few weeks to get one.

At that point, the PCH adventure was officially over. I made my way back home, grabbed my truck, picked up the Harley and brought it back to my guy Ron at Santa Clarita Choppers. Ron had me fixed up and back in business within a week. šŸ‘Š

Did I make it to Berkeley? Nope.
Did I make it to Oregon? Nope.

But I rode the Harley up PCH, made it through Big Sur, met some great people, experienced firsthand how riders look out for each other, and came home with another story.

Thatā€™s what riding is about. Itā€™s not always the destinationā€”itā€™s the adventure getting there.
