🌪️ Severe Weather Update 🌪️

At this time, it looks like the strongest severe weather is expected to stay south of our area. However, weather can change quickly, so we encourage everyone to stay alert, especially for any potential tornado activity later this evening.

Please continue to monitor local forecasts, watches, and warnings, and have a plan in place in case conditions worsen.

⚠️ Severe weather and heavy rain are expected to move through our area today. Please take a few minutes now to prepare and help prevent unnecessary flooding.

✅ Clear leaves and debris from street drains, gutters, and downspouts
✅ Secure outdoor furniture, umbrellas, and loose items
✅ Move valuables out of basements or low-lying areas if flooding is a concern
✅ Charge your phones and devices in case of power outages
✅ Listen for Tornado sirens and take cover

A little preparation now can make a big difference later. Stay weather aware, keep an eye on local alerts, and stay safe today, everyone. 🌧️⛈️

As you know, our area had severe weather. Unfortunately there are people out there who are looking to take advantage of the situation at your expense. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. If you are worried you may have wind/hail damage to your home, call a reputable contractor and have them inspect your home. Talk to friends, neighbors and your local building department to find someone. Our area is full of great contractors who have been a part of the community for several years.

2. Avoid anyone who comes knocking at your door or people advertising "free roofs" even before they assess the damage. Nobody can guarantee a new roof without assessing the damage and reading your full insurance policy.

3. DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT with anyone before talking to your contractor or insurance agent. Some of these companies operate on the law of large numbers - if they can get 100 people to sign a contract and file a claim, maybe 10 of them will have a legit claim that pays out. The remaining people are left with an unnecessary claim on their record.

4. Avoid anyone who says a claim doesn't affect your rates. A $0 claim can impact your rates just as much as a $10,000 claim. These people do not know your specific insurance policy and blanket statements like that are irresponsible and inaccurate.

5. Don't trust anyone who shows up unannounced claiming your insurance company sent them to your home. This is a scam.

6. Don't rush and don't panic. You have time to file a claim. Most insurance policies allow 6-12 months to report a claim after an occurrence like this. Figure out what is happening and go from there.

7. If there is obvious damage from the storm such as trees on your house or water leaking through the roof already, call your agent/carrier and get the ball rolling. Once you start a claim, an adjuster will come out to inspect the damage. If you have questions/concerns, talk to your agent or contractor.

The insurance industry provides incredible career paths, but one of the biggest challenges facing our profession is introducing the next generation to those opportunities. College is a great path for many students, but there are also rewarding careers available where young people can build relationships, serve their community, and grow professionally.

This is exactly why we were so excited to help bring the CISR program opportunity to Portage High School.

Seeing a Portage High School student earn a nationally recognized insurance credential before graduation is something our entire community should celebrate.

Congratulations again, Kodie. We’re excited to see where this takes you, and Samuelson Insurance Agency is always willing to support opportunities that help young people succeed.

Congratulations to Portage High School senior Kodie Young on earning the Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) designation through The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research. Kodie is the first PHS student to earn this nationwide credential, as this is the first year the course has been offered.

Over the school year, Kodie completed the CISR Program as a 100% independent study student, completing professional-level coursework in risk management, personal and commercial insurance, property and casualty coverage, and life and health insurance. Kodie also passed five industry certification exams to earn the designation.

Congratulations to Kodie on this outstanding accomplishment and a credential that will open doors long after high school!
