It's hard to believe we're already heading toward the end of 2026.
Before we start looking ahead, maybe it's worth looking back.

🔎 How has the year actually gone?
🔎 Did you accomplish what you set out to do?
🔎 Were you growing, or did the year feel like one long fire drill?

➡️ Most importantly, how did all that effort show up in the results?
In your bank account?

September may feel early to start asking these questions, but there's already enough of the year behind us to learn from it. What would you want to repeat and what would you rather leave behind?

Before answering, start with clarity.
Pair how the year felt with what the results actually show.
That clearer picture helps you see what worked and what needs to change.
After all, you can't intentionally change what you can't clearly see.

What would you do if you won the lottery?
We’ve all thought about it at some point.
But what if the way you manage a little today is a pretty good indication of how you would manage a lot tomorrow?

We may never win a $100 million Powerball jackpot, but every day we are given valuable resources:

▫️ 24 hours of time
▫️ A unique set of talents
▫️ A specific income
▫️ Relationships to nurture

How are we managing what we have today so our future selves will thank us tomorrow?
That’s the stewardship mindset.

Stewardship requires choices:

▫️ Management or consumption
▫️ Growth or stagnation
▫️ Spending or investing

And the list goes on.
We started this series with stewardship to value what’s in our hands, clarity to see what we’re working with, and priorities to decide what deserves our resources most. Now comes the part that matters most: what we actually do with what we've been given.

How well can we manage what's already in our hands, so today’s wealth doesn’t slip through our fingers?

Last week I wrote about clarity.

Once I can clearly see my resources, the next step is deciding how to allocate them.

Take time, for instance.
Every day, I have the same 24 hours everyone else has.
I don't have time to do everything.
Something has to come first, and some things simply don't happen.
And I'm okay with that.

Business works the same way.
Every dollar invested in one area is a dollar that can't be invested somewhere else. Every new initiative means another has to wait.

With prioritization, the goal is no longer doing everything but choosing to do what your future will thank you for.

Last week I talked about stewardship.
But stewardship requires something first.

Clarity.

If you spend enough time around Fractional CFOs, you'd think clarity was our favorite word. We throw it around like it's batting practice.

⚾ Financial clarity.
⚾ Cash flow clarity.
⚾ Operational clarity.

But what does it actually mean?

Clarity removes ambiguity so you can act intentionally.
It’s seeing where your resources are going and confirming they're actually supporting your priorities.

Clarity is not:
▪️ A gut feeling
▪️ An instinct
▪️ Mental math
▪️ A guess

Afterall, you can't intentionally manage what you can't clearly see.

I've noticed a subtle trap in life.
We spend so much time trying to acquire more things that we forget to manage what we already have. So focused on building, producing, and grinding, that everything we have starts to feel like possessions rather than gifts.

Instead of being intentional with what we have, they slip through our fingers. And then we find ourselves working even harder to replace what was lost.

And so, the cycle continues…

Maybe breaking the cycle starts with stewardship.
True stewardship requires a choice:
Am I managing my resources to break the cycle?
Or to stay comfortable within it?

Financial statements are the best diagnostic tools a business owner has.

They tell you how the business is performing today and point to tomorrow's financial challenges before they become bigger ones.

If you're trying to improve the business, that's where I'd start looking.

There's nothing wrong with saying, "I think."The goal is getting to, "I know."

"I just want better financial statements."
— Said no business owner ever.

Business owners want to:
➜ Obtain a loan.
➜ Raise capital.
➜ Acquire another business.
➜ Prepare for a sale.

Then someone asks for the financials.
That's usually when the connection is made.

Be prepared when opportunities arise.
The businesses that move the fastest are often the ones that already have reliable financial information.

I've been reflecting on Micah 6:8 lately.
"Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly..."

I believe these principles apply to business as well.

➜ Act justly.
Do what you say you'll do.

➜ Love mercy.
Treat employees, customers, and vendors with grace.

➜ Walk humbly.
Stay teachable, especially when things are going well.

The most respected business owners I know chose integrity, grace, and humility.
Success may grow a business, but character is what people remember.
