Farmers & Mechanics Insurance Companies is the largest domiciled property and casualty carrier in the State of West Virginia. As a mutual company, we do not have stockholders, but policyholders, who officially own the company. We provide a variety of policies for homeowners, farm owners, and business owners. In fact, we are the eighth largest homeowner carrier and the second largest farm owner carrier in the State of West Virginia.

Nearly 150 years sounds like a long time. But a company’s story isn’t really measured in years alone.

It’s measured in the people who have been part of it along the way.

The independent agents who have represented F&M in their communities. The employees who have helped keep things moving. The policyholders who have trusted us with what matters to them. And the communities that have been part of our story for generations.

Each one has helped carry F&M forward from one generation to the next.

As we get closer to our 150th anniversary, we’re reminded that a milestone like this was never built by one person, one place, or one moment.

It was built over generations.

And we’re grateful to everyone who has been part of the story.

Our team got into the Halloween spirit today with some creative costumes, plenty of laughs, and a pizza lunch! 🍕🎃

From familiar faces to some pretty clever costumes, everyone brought a little extra fun to the office today!

In 1991, F&M introduced its Businessowners Program, adding a new chapter focused on protecting local businesses. In 2006, Farmers & Mechanics Fire & Casualty Insurance, Inc. was formed to write auto insurance, expanding what we could offer.

These milestones tell a story of growth with a purpose: being able to help protect more of the lives and livelihoods taking shape around us.

As we look toward our 150th anniversary in 2027, we’re proud to keep building on that history here in West Virginia.

Yesterday, Farmers & Mechanics Insurance Companies was proud to attend and support the 2026 Women of Distinction Luncheon, hosted by Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital.

For 22 years, this event has celebrated extraordinary women whose leadership, dedication, and service have made a meaningful difference in our communities. It’s an opportunity to recognize not only their accomplishments but also the lasting impact they have on those around them.

Congratulations to this year’s honorees, Mary Duke, Angelina Gray, and Trish Starliper! Their commitment to serving others, creating opportunities, and strengthening our community is an inspiration to current and future generations.

Events like these remind us of the importance of recognizing those who lead by example and inspire others to make a difference. We’re grateful to be part of a community filled with women whose contributions deserve to be celebrated.
