Just some quick information regarding the rain. Rain itself is not a covered home insurance peril, a leaky roof is not covered just because your shingles need replaced. In some circumstances rain water will be covered if damage is caused by one of the other following perils:

Fire or lightning
Windstorm or hail
Explosion
Riot or civil commotion
Damage caused by aircraft
Damage caused by vehicles
Smoke
Vandalism or malicious mischief
Theft
Volcanic eruption
Falling object
Weight of ice, snow or sleet

Home insurance does not cover ground / rising water in your basement, or home. However if you have a coverage known as "Water Back-up" and have a sump pump that fails during the storm you may have some coverage for damage.
