Today marks the 15th year since the Joplin tornado. What started out as a beautiful Sunday
ended with the single deadliest tornado in the US since 1950 when an EF5 struck our city.
I will never forget what progressed from that day forward through our office and State Farm.
Within the first hour I had several agents and friends helping to get my office up and running with a generator, etc and by the next day there were at least 40 State Farm agents from other areas working out of my office at any given time. We were there from 6am until however late we had customers in the office. We had donations of food, supplies and water dropped
off daily and a crew of agents, staff and family cooking in front of our office to hand out free food to anyone who needed a meal.
I was very proud to see how this company and the many State Farm offices responded to the needs of our customers and this community when it was needed the most. We take serious our job of helping people recover from the unexpected and although May 22, 2011 was a day of fear and loss for many of us, it is also a day that will always remind me of why we do what we do for a living.

With Mike Bette’s being here right after it happened and coming back a few weeks ago for this story, this should be worth watching.
