Here's something that surprises a lot of people: your beneficiary designations may override your will. That means a form you filled out years ago may carry more legal weight than the estate plan you put together with your attorney. If those designations are outdated, assets may not end up where you intend.

At CORDA, we think beneficiary reviews are one of the most straightforward, high-impact things a client can do. A simple review of accounts, wills, trusts, and powers of attorney can catch gaps before a major life event makes them costly.

If it's been a while since you've taken a look, it may be worth a conversation.

Last week, the full CORDA team came together in Houston for our all-hands huddle. Bringing the full team together is one of our favorite traditions! We shared three days of learning, planning, and time together, including one day at a conference room in the Houston Zoo! We talked through best practices, collaborated on how to serve clients even more effectively, and made time for the kind of conversations that only happen face to face.

We are a group that genuinely enjoys being together, and we know that our clients benefit when our team is connected! When advisors, planners, portfolio managers, operations, and everyone else are in the same room, good things happen.

Thank you to everyone who made the trip. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated team!

Private markets, especially private credit, have attracted significant attention in recent years. One of the most important considerations, and one investors sometimes overlook, is liquidity.

Many private investment structures include limited redemption windows. That means access to capital may be restricted, especially during periods of elevated withdrawal demand. That does not automatically make the asset class attractive or unattractive, but it does reinforce the importance of understanding liquidity terms alongside return potential.

At CORDA, our approach has long emphasized disciplined portfolio construction, thoughtful risk management, and alignment with each client’s broader financial plan. That includes evaluating:

• Liquidity relative to client needs
• Full-cycle risk, not just current conditions
• Portfolio-level stress scenarios
• Position sizing and overall portfolio fit

These questions matter even more during periods of market stress, when structure often becomes just as important as strategy. Private investments can have a place in a portfolio, but only when structure, liquidity, and client objectives are carefully aligned.

Looking at a private investment and want a second opinion? CORDA is always happy to be a resource.

CORDA is proud to support the Delta Zeta Open Golf Tournament, a women-led philanthropic event that brings together community leaders, alumni, business partners, and students for a meaningful day of connection and impact.

The event raises critical funds for two impactful organizations: Starkey Hearing Foundation, which provides hearing aids and hearing healthcare to individuals in need around the world, and SeriousFun Children’s Network, which delivers life-changing camp experiences for children living with serious illnesses.

We are grateful to support a mission that restores confidence, creates joy, and builds more inclusive communities.

Wishing all participants a wonderful day on the course!

Yesterday was International Women’s Day, a time to recognize the strength, leadership, and impact of women in our communities and around the world.

To mark the occasion, CORDA has made a donation to UN Women to support their work advancing opportunity, safety, and equality for women globally.

We are grateful for the women who strengthen our firm, our client relationships, and the communities we serve. Supporting organizations that help women build secure and independent futures reflects the values we strive to uphold every day.

A worthwhile read for those following the path of inflation, economic resilience, and the Fed’s next moves. As the Federal Reserve meets this Wednesday, this piece outlines why a rate cut is unlikely in the near term and what the data is signaling for the months ahead.

A thoughtful piece from Professor Jeremy Siegel this week on the Fed’s evolving stance and what it may mean for markets. We found this commentary particularly interesting as it echoes CORDA’s focus on understanding the bigger economic picture rather than reacting to short-term moves.
