✨ Women’s History Month ✨ Less than 50 years ago, many women couldn’t get a mortgage without a husband or male co-signer.

That changed in 1974 with the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, which made it illegal for lenders to discriminate based on s*x or marital status.

Fast forward to today — according to the National Association of Realtors, single women now make up about 25% of first-time homebuyers.

Women are building wealth, stability, and independence through homeownership more than ever before.

One of the most rewarding parts of my job is helping women realize they don’t need a partner to buy a home — just the right plan and support.

At LMCU we are growing our commitment to accessible homeownership! LMCU's Board of Directors recently approved a $12-million, multi-year expansion to our HomeAssist program, which helps under-resourced residents across Michigan afford their first homes.

Since 2024, HomeAssist has connected more than 180 first-time homebuyers across Michigan with grants of up to $10,000 to use for down payment and closing cost assistance. Now, we're excited to push that number even higher!
