I’ve been posting about the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge for a few weeks now. Here’s

What it is: A CMS demonstration program giving eligible Medicare Part D beneficiaries access to certain GLP-1 weight loss medications for $50 a month. everything in one place. Save this one.

When it starts: July 1, 2026, through December 31, 2027.

Which medications: Wegovy, Zepbound, and Foundayo.

Who qualifies: Medicare Part D beneficiaries using these medications for weight management only, who meet BMI and health criteria confirmed by their doctor. People already getting GLP-1 coverage through Part D for diabetes, sleep apnea, or MASH do not qualify.

How the $50 works: Flat copay at the pharmacy. Does not count toward your deductible or out-of-pocket maximum. Stays $50 regardless of where you are in your plan year.

What to do right now: Talk to your doctor. Find your Medicare card. Make sure you’re on an eligible plan type.

What I can help with: Confirming whether your plan qualifies, answering eligibility questions, and making sure you’re not caught off guard on July 1.

Can I ask you a favor?

Think about the people in your life who are on Medicare. A parent. A neighbor. Someone from church. A friend who just retired.

Now think about whether any of them have mentioned struggling to afford weight loss medication. Or been told Medicare doesn’t cover it. Or just quietly given up on asking.

Starting July 1, that might not be true anymore.

Eligible Medicare Part D beneficiaries can access Wegovy, Zepbound, or Foundayo for $50 a month through this new CMS program. It runs through December 2027. And most people on Medicare have absolutely no idea it exists.

You might be the reason someone finds out.

Forward this post. Share it on your page. Text it to someone who needs it. I’ll be here to answer questions for anyone you send my way.

July 1 is closer than it feels. Here’s what to do right now so you’re ready when the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge goes live.

Talk to your doctor.

If you think you might qualify, bring this up at your next appointment. Your doctor will need to submit a prior authorization request once the program opens. CMS releases the full prior authorization process in June, so they don’t need to do anything yet. But flagging it now means you’re not scrambling later.

Find your Medicare card.

The pharmacy will need your Medicare Number to process the claim. Know where your card is. If you’ve lost it, you can find your Medicare Number by logging into MyMedicare.gov or calling 1-800-MEDICARE.

Make sure you’re on an eligible plan.

Most standard Part D and Medicare Advantage plans qualify. If you’re not sure whether your specific plan is eligible, reach out to me directly. I can pull up your plan information and confirm in minutes.

You don’t have to figure this out alone! This is exactly what I do.

I want to be upfront about who this program is not for, because this is where a lot of confusion is going to happen.

If you are already getting a GLP-1 medication covered through your Part D plan, you do not qualify for the GLP-1 Bridge. You’re already covered, and that’s actually a good thing.

This specifically includes people whose GLP-1 is being covered because of type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, or a liver condition called MASH.

If any of those apply to you, your Part D plan is already handling your coverage. The Bridge was built specifically for people who had no coverage path before because they were using these medications purely for weight management.

One more thing worth knowing. Not every Medicare plan type qualifies. Most standard Part D and Medicare Advantage plans do. But there are a handful of specific plan types that are not eligible unless you also carry a standalone Part D plan.

Not sure whether your specific plan qualifies? That is exactly the kind of thing I can help you figure out in about five minutes.

Already taking Wegovy, Zepbound, or Foundayo? This one is specifically for you.

One of the most common questions I’m getting is: I’m already on one of these medications. Can I still use the GLP-1 Bridge?

The answer is yes, as long as you’re a Medicare Part D beneficiary and you meet the eligibility criteria.

Here’s the part that matters most.

The clinical criteria are based on where you were when you started the medication, not where you are today. So if you started Wegovy in 2023 with a BMI of 38 and your BMI is now 31, your doctor would confirm that you met the criteria when you started therapy. You would still qualify.

This is genuinely good news for people who have been paying full price for these medications for a long time.

What you need to do right now is talk to your prescribing doctor and give them a heads up that this program is coming. They’ll need to submit a prior authorization request once the program opens July 1. CMS releases the full process in June, so nothing to do on their end just yet.

But the earlier you have that conversation, the smoother July 1 is going to go.

Here’s what actually happens when you go to pick up your medication through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge.

Your doctor submits a prior authorization request through the GLP-1 Bridge system. This goes to a central processor, not your regular Part D plan. It’s a completely separate process.

Once that’s approved, you take your prescription to the pharmacy like normal.

At the counter, you pay $50. The pharmacy processes the claim through the GLP-1 Bridge system, not through your regular drug plan.

A couple of things to have ready when you go:

Your Medicare card. The pharmacy needs your Medicare Number to process the claim. If you don’t have your card handy, they can look it up with the last four digits of your Social Security number.

Your prescription, along with confirmation that your prior authorization has been submitted and approved.

And here’s the part worth repeating. Because this runs outside of your regular Part D coverage, your deductible does not apply. The $50 is the $50 no matter where you are in your plan year. No surprises at the counter.

CMS is releasing the full prior authorization process in June. I’ll have everything you need before July 1.

Ok, let’s talk about who actually qualifies for the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge. Because this is where it gets specific.

First, you have to be enrolled in a Medicare Part D plan. Most standard plans qualify, including standalone drug plans and Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage.

Then your doctor has to confirm you meet one of these criteria:

BMI of 35 or higher, OR

BMI of 30 or higher AND you have heart failure, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or chronic kidney disease, OR

BMI of 27 or higher AND you have pre-diabetes, a previous heart attack, a previous stroke, or peripheral artery disease.

Here’s something important that a lot of people are going to miss.

The BMI requirement is based on where you were when you started your GLP-1 medication, not where you are today. So if you started Wegovy two years ago when your BMI was 36 and it’s now 31, you can still qualify based on where you started.

Your doctor will need to confirm this when they submit your prior authorization request. More on that process coming soon.

Questions about whether you specifically qualify? That’s exactly what I’m here for!

DM me and let’s figure it out together. 👇

Did any of those criteria surprise you?

So which medications are actually covered under the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge?

There are three, and the specific formulation matters, so write these down.

Wegovy, both the injectable and the oral tablet form.

Zepbound, but only the KwikPen formulation. The single-dose vial and single-dose pen are not included.

Foundayo, all formulations.
All three are FDA-approved weight management medications.

All three are available at the $50 copay for eligible beneficiaries starting July 1.

One thing that surprises a lot of people: this program runs completely separate from your regular Part D coverage. That means the $50 does not count toward your deductible or your out-of-pocket maximum for the year. It’s its own thing entirely.

The list of covered medications could also be updated as the program runs. CMS already added Foundayo after the original announcement, so it’s worth staying tuned.

More details coming on exactly who qualifies and how it works at the pharmacy.

Listen. 👀

For years, one of the most common things I’ve heard from Medicare clients is this: why won’t Medicare cover my weight loss medication?

And for years, the answer was frustrating. Medicare generally didn’t cover GLP-1 drugs just for weight management. Diabetes, heart disease, maybe. But strictly for weight loss? Usually no.

That’s changing.

Starting July 1, 2026, the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge goes live nationwide. Eligible Part D beneficiaries can get Wegovy, Zepbound, or Foundayo for $50 a month through December 2027.

This is a confirmed CMS demonstration program. Not a rumor. Not a maybe. It’s happening.

And most people on Medicare have no idea it exists yet.

Comment BRIDGE below and I’ll send you the full details. 👇

How long have you been hearing that Medicare doesn’t cover weight loss medications?

If you have Medicare and you’ve been told weight loss medications aren’t covered, I need you to read this.

Starting July 1, 2026, CMS is launching something called the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge. And it is a big deal.

Here’s the short version.

Eligible Medicare Part D beneficiaries can now access FDA-approved weight loss medications, including Wegovy and Zepbound, for $50 a month. Not $500. Not $1,200. Fifty dollars.

This is a temporary demonstration program running through December 31, 2027. It’s not permanent, but it’s real, it’s confirmed, and it’s coming fast.

Over the next few weeks I’m going to break down exactly who qualifies, how it works at the pharmacy, and what you need to do before July 1.

Save this post. Share it with someone on Medicare who needs to hear it.

DM me the word BRIDGE and I’ll make sure you get everything as it comes out. 👇
