Here's a number that surprised us.

In 2025, a new estate on Lake Minnetonka was listed for $55 million. The listing agents said that price was about half of what it would cost to build today.

Most homes are insured for what they'd cost to rebuild, not what they'd sell for. Those two numbers can be far apart.

In a 2022 survey, 64% of insured homeowners either believed their coverage was based on market value or weren't sure.
