South Florida marinas fill fast when weather turns—don’t assume you’re covered. Get clarity now so you aren’t scrambling later. Call your marina and confirm exactly how their haul-out process works and what they need from you to secure a spot.
Use this quick checklist:
1) Deadlines: What is the last day/time to join or confirm the haul-out list? Do they lock the list at a certain forecast or watch?
2) Priority formula: How are slots assigned—resident vs. transient, length/beam, contract tenure, payment on file, storm category, or sign-up timestamp?
3) Triggers and capacity: At what forecast threshold do they start hauling, and how many boats per day can they move? Do they have partner yards if capacity is exceeded?
4) Documentation: Exactly which files are required and how to submit them—insurance certificate with named marina, registration, photo ID, proof of ownership, credit card authorization, and your tiedown/blocking plan (padeyes, jack stands, cradle, straps).
5) Onsite rules: Who can work on your boat, DIY vs. contractor policy, pre-haul battery and fuel requirements, mast/pole removal, and hazardous materials limits.
6) Communication: How will they notify you of your haul window, what’s the backup channel if phones go down, relaunch timing, storage fees, and penalties for no-shows.
