What is the NFC Advantage? The subsidy (forgivable loan) of up to $15,000 is used to help pay fo

r property repairs and improvements. Eligible home buyers also receive a subsidy (forgivable) up to $2,500 to assist with down payment and/or closing costs on a purchase transaction. Please note, there are several factors to consider when determining if the borrower can receive the closing cost subsidy and if so, how much. Final determination cannot be made until a completed application and supporting documentation have been reviewed by NFC. Because these subsidies are paired with your NFC loan, you can do more than if you obtained a traditional loan elsewhere. Your loan works harder for you at NFC. This program is made possible through partnerships with the City of Des Moines, Polk County, Des Moines Area Banks and Neighborhood Associations. Together we are improving Des Moines neighborhoods.

During NeighborWorks America week, NFC was proud to share our work supporting affordable homeownership at a roundtable with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner and Congressman Zach Nunn.

NFC shared how we are working to solve the housing crisis through loans to homebuyers and homeowners, our 0% construction loan to developers to build homes for purchase, and building homes through NFC Properties.

Executive Director, Stephanie Murphy, also shared about the impact of the NeighborWorks America network. In FY 2025, the 250 NeighborWorks Organizations across the U.S. did amazing things!

😀 417,000 individuals and families were assisted
🔑 17,600 new homeowners created
🏠 11,400 homeowners preserved
⚒️66,900 homes repaired

As we’ve previously shared, this project is more than just housing, there will be a coffee house, a restaurant and a place to host community events—creating lasting economic and social impact.

NFC has joined forces with Community Housing Capital, a national Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) based in Atlanta, GA, to provide construction financing for the transformation of the 6th Avenue Corridor Townhall/Foodhall project. This $13 million redevelopment will breathe new life into the historic and long-vacant North Des Moines City Hall.
