On the other hand, after more saber-rattling in Iran, oil prices are trending up again, and the national debt rising above $40 trillion creates a longer-term concern about future US borrowing costs.

In a more normal market, a weak BLS jobs report followed by a tame CPI report would have resulted in lower US treasury yields and mortgage rates. But this isn't a normal market - mortgage rates only came down slightly.
