🎒 1,175 Backpacks, 1 Full Circle of Giving

NCCI volunteers experienced the full circle of giving back through the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County.

📦 50 volunteers came together over four days to sort school supplies and pack 1,175 backpacks for two Title 1 schools. Our team then visited S.D. Spady Elementary School to hand them out directly to students.

✨ Seeing the smiles on the children's faces made this a truly meaningful experience.

📊 New from NCCI: For lost-time claims, medical utilization grows as injured worker wages rise. This correlation persists across age groups, jurisdictions, industry groups, and even NCCI class codes within a particular industry group.

Compared to lower-wage workers, higher-wage workers have:
✔️ 1.6x higher medical utilization
✔️ 1.5x higher medical severity
✔️ 2x higher likelihood of major surgery

Understanding the complex dynamic between medical utilization and demographic factors such as earnings, aging workforce, and temporal changes in mix of injuries can help stakeholders more accurately project medical utilization, claim outcomes, and the final cost of a claim.

📋 Medical cost trends continue to be top of mind for industry stakeholders. Each year, NCCI monitors changes in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reimbursement rules and rates and considers their potential impacts on WC medical costs.

As in 2025, the factors published by CMS are not expected to be a significant source of upward pressure on overall WC medical costs. However, the impact will vary by state based on the medical service categories covered by medical fee schedules, how those schedules incorporate CMS rules and rates, and the distribution of medical costs.
