Many owner-operators choose high deductibles to lower their monthly premium, without fully understanding the tradeoff until they actually need to file.

Before your next renewal, ask your broker one question:
"If I filed a claim tomorrow, exactly how much would I receive?"

If you don't know the answer, or your broker can't give you a clear one, it's time to talk to someone who specializes in trucking.

Most fleets assume their insurance covers everything on that truck. It doesn't. Your primary liability policy and your cargo coverage are two completely separate things, and if you only have one of them, part of your operation is unprotected. Watch this to understand exactly what Motor Truck Cargo insurance covers, what it doesn't, and why it matters before your next load.

If a claim is filed after your policy lapses β€” even by one day β€” you're personally responsible for everything.

Set a reminder 60 days before your renewal date. That's enough time to review your coverage, compare your options, and make sure you're never caught without protection.

Not sure when your policy renews? Call us β€” we'll tell you exactly where you stand.

The moment you're moving your truck off dispatch, driving home, running errands, personal use, your primary policy stops covering you.

That gap has a name: Non-Trucking Liability.

It's a separate coverage most general agents never bring up. And most fleet managers never think to ask about it β€” until something happens.

Make sure it's on your policy. If you're not certain, give us a call and we'll check for you.

You added a truck. Hired a new driver. Started hauling something different. Maybe you changed your routes entirely.

Your business didn't stay the same this year. But most insurance policies do β€” because nobody asked.

That's the problem with auto-renewing a policy without a real review. It doesn't update itself.
It doesn't know your operation changed. It just renews β€” gaps and all.

A lot can happen in 12 months. Your coverage should reflect that.

If nobody has sat down with you and actually walked through your policy this year β€” give us a call. That's exactly what we do.

Most fleet managers have never filed a claim before. And the ones who have wish someone had walked them through it first. Here's exactly what happens, step by step. Watch before you need it.

⚠️ These gaps don't show up until the wrong moment.
Most fleets don't find out they have a coverage gap until a broker rejects their COI, or a claim gets denied...

Here's what brokers actually check before they load you:

βœ… Auto Liability -- The FMCSA minimum is $750,000, but most brokers won't work with you without $1,000,000 on file. If your policy sits at the legal minimum, you may be losing loads without knowing it.

βœ… Cargo Coverage -- Almost every broker requires at least $100,000 before they tender a load. The limit also needs to match what you're actually hauling, not just a generic number.

βœ… Active FMCSA Filings (BMC-91/91X) -- Your insurer files this directly with FMCSA. If there's a lapse -- even from a missed payment -- brokers can see it and loads stop.

βœ… Commodity Match -- If your policy says "general freight" but you're hauling something more specific, a claim can be denied on that basis alone.
These gaps don't show up until the wrong moment.

Trailer Interchange and Non-Owned Trailer coverage are not the same thing.

Trailer Interchange requires a written interchange agreement between you and the trailer owner. Without that agreement, the coverage doesn't apply β€” even if you're paying for it.

If you regularly pull trailers you don't own, confirm with your broker which coverage you actually have and whether it applies to how you're operating.

Not sure? That's exactly the kind of thing we check in a policy review.
