One of the biggest misconceptions around a fractional family office is that it’s only for a certain level of wealth. In this conversation, Kylie Allen, CPA, EVP of Fractional Family Office at 49 Financial, explains why the better question is often not “How much do I have?” but “How much complexity am I managing?”

As financial lives grow more interconnected, many people begin asking questions around taxes, investments, family preparedness, and whether all the moving pieces are working together effectively.
We linked a deeper blog in the comments that expands on the conversation and what it can look like to bring more coordination into the financial picture.

In AdvisorHub’s latest article on the rise of mid-career advisor recruiting, Scott Neils, 49 Financial’s EVP of Growth & Head of Field, shares why experienced advisors are increasingly evaluating whether they are in the best environment to grow, serve clients, and build long-term success.

As Scott put it, “When mid-career financial professionals eventually find themselves in a spot where they feel confident enough, they begin learning more about the broader industry... This is when they ask themselves whether they are in the best place to serve, grow and achieve their goals.”

At 49 Financial, we believe advisor growth is fueled by the right combination of support, technology, flexibility, and culture.

The term “family office” gets used a lot, but it doesn’t always mean the same thing. In many cases, it refers to different types of structures that may not fully reflect the original idea of coordinating all aspects of a financial life.

In this conversation, Travis Penfield, Founder & CEO, and Kylie Allen, CPA, EVP of Fractional Family Office, explain how a fractional approach is designed to bring that level of coordination into a more flexible and accessible model.

"I realized I was serving companies more than I was serving people.”

That realization is what led Wills Crenshaw to make a career change into financial planning.

Today, one of the things he values most is the proximity to impact. "If you want to be close to the impact of the work you’re doing, there aren’t many careers like financial planning.”

Wills is filled with gratitude that he gets to spend each day helping families navigate major life decisions, plan for the future, and walk through both opportunities and challenges alongside them.

Today’s market environment is creating more questions for investors around volatility, retirement readiness, and long-term planning.

In a recent InvestmentNews article, Patrick Mundlin discussed how clients are increasingly seeking assurance that their financial plans are built to withstand uncertainty and help them avoid emotionally driven decisions during market swings.

Patrick shared, “What clients want most is confidence: that if there's a significant market pullback, the planning and framework we've accounted for this possibility. Clients increasingly want to understand tradeoffs, not just outcomes.”

The piece also explores how structured investments and personalized planning strategies can help align portfolios with each client’s goals, timeline and risk tolerance.

Thanks to Gregg Greenberg for including Patrick’s thoughts. Read the full article in the comments below.

At a certain point, financial life stops feeling simple, not because anything is wrong, but because there are more moving pieces competing for your time and attention.

In this conversation, Founder & CEO Travis Penfield sits down with Kylie Allen, CPA, EVP of Fractional Family Office, to break down why, for many people, finances eventually feel more like something that needs to be managed.

Estate planning is about more than documents. It is about creating clarity and confidence for the people you leave behind.

In Barron's Advisor’s latest article on settling an estate, 49 Financial Advisor Patrick Mundlin shared the real-world challenges families face after losing a loved one, especially when important financial details are difficult to locate.

Patrick recalled a time he helped a widower piece together years of financial information after his wife’s passing, spending days identifying accounts, assets, and important records: “We were essentially playing Sherlock Holmes to determine what accounts were still open, how much was in them and where they were held. You have to know where things are.”

At 49 Financial, we believe proactive planning can make a meaningful difference during some of life’s most difficult moments. Helping families organize financial information, prepare heirs, and navigate transitions is an important part of the work we do every day.

Thank you to and Cheryl Winokur Munk for highlighting the importance of thoughtful preparation and trusted guidance.
