The Raos are in their 70s and have moved to the US on green cards to retire near their kids.

They'll face challenges as they settle in, from filing taxes in a new country and navigating worldwide taxation to securing medical coverage (no Social Security) and the more critical expat/immigrant grief.

They can have a successful retirement in the US and enjoy their grandkids, but it will take a cross-border village to help them settle.

Moving to the US on an L-1 visa is exciting, but it also means entering a financial system completely different from the one you are leaving behind.

Stop fearing tax extensions - they’re not an audit magnet.

They allow you to fix issues, correct errors, obtain missing tax documents,
and, if you have overseas filing requirements, file them first.

This may allow you to claim foreign tax credits for taxes paid overseas.
