Mark loved the insurance business and all of the customers he served over his 40 years working for, managing, and then owning Altavista Insurance. He started in 1984, working for Bob Steele, who was like a father to him. Mark proved his worth through his dedication and trustworthiness and quickly became manager and eventually owner when Bob sold him the business. Marks immediate family began filling roles as other employees retired. He cherished being able to work with family and it gave them an uncommon opportunity to bond and grow closer as the family grew and grandkids started bringing new energy to the office. Marks plans and wishes were for the business to continue and we will do everything we can to make sure that happens. He really did love and appreciate his customers. We will do our best to honor his legacy. Thank you all so much for your continued support during this difficult time

Benjamin Edes (October 14, 1732 - December 11, 1803)

Printer and publisher of the Boston Gazette, Benjamin Edes was a political instigator known as one of the main financiers of the Boston Tea Party. Edes, through the Boston Gazette, spread Anti-British propaganda that helped inflame the colonies against their oppressors and helped form the Sons of Liberty. His Gazette became the mouthpiece for Samuel Adams where they attacked British policies, most significantly the Intolerable Acts, the Stamp Act, the Townshend Acts, and the tea tax. On Dec. 16, 1773, Benjamin Edes hosted a group of men in his parlor before they set out after sunset for the recently docked tea ships the Dartmouth, the Eleanor, and the Beaver, some men disguised as Mohawk or Narragansett native Americans. As a result, the Boston Tea Party helped shift cultural attitudes against Great Britain, helped popularize coffee, and pushed American colonies one step closer to war for Independence.
