A thought that’s been sitting with me after listening to Frank Wright:

We look at people who disagree with us politically, philosophically, or culturally as enemies. Frank challenged that idea in a way that hit me.

He said:

“See your bitter political enemies as casualties on the battlefield. Because it’s a war on our civilization. Wherever possible, heal the sick and help the wounded. We must do better than universal vengeance and moral degradation.”

That perspective resonated with me.

My takeaways:

We’re living in a time where division is rewarded. Anger gets clicks. Outrage gets attention. But if we’re ever going to move forward, we have to stop viewing everyone who disagrees with us as the enemy.

People are often carrying wounds we can’t see. Fear. Pain. Brokenness. Bad experiences. Misinformation. Just because someone arrives at a different conclusion than I do doesn’t mean they’re beyond compassion.

I don’t think the answer is to compromise your values. I think the answer is to hold your convictions firmly while treating people with dignity.

If our civilization is going to improve, it won’t happen through humiliation, vengeance, or trying to destroy one another.

It will happen when enough people decide to become what Frank called “social missionaries”—people who heal, teach, serve, and lead by example

I’m not sure if I’m the one who’s wounded or if you are. But if I can help you, I will. And if you can help me, I hope I don’t need it but if I do, I’m so grateful. Point is we’ve been pushed into these 2 or so boxes and it isn’t fair. We aren’t a label. We are humans who want to live in a world where we can raise a family, be free and create. So let’s do it together.
