Three children. One farm. No plan.

The eldest had worked the land for 20 years. The second had moved to the city. The third had studied abroad. When their father passed, everyone had an opinion, but nobody had a plan.

Without a plan for his estate, the law decided who got what. Not him. Even though he had maintained a peaceful household, everything he worked for became a dispute that landed in court with several unhappy relatives. The family couldn't maintain the lifestyle they had known their whole lives and lost a fortune in legal battles.

None of this would have happened with proper foresight and a well-informed plan.

That's exactly where we come in. Come have a conversation with us at Carrick Wealth before it's too late.

Another week, another event. We never get tired of these.

As we've said before, wherever the future of Namibia is being discussed, you'll find us in there. The 4th Namibia Oil and Gas Conference was exactly that kind of room.

Nicholas Harrison and Cecelia Blaauw represented the office on the ground, not just be seen, but to genuinely understand the world our clients are building their wealth in. Because the better we know their world, the better we can serve them in it.

They got to connect with Advocate Martha Imalwa, Namibia's Prosecutor General, Hon. Phillippus Albertus Balhao, now representing Alistair Group in Lüderitz, and so many other decision-makers shaping the conversations around energy.

Refreshments aside, we're always happy to be a part of these events. We look forward to bringing everything we learned back to the people who matter most, our clients.

US debt concerns, a potential cancer breakthrough and rising UK inflation three themes shaping this week’s market conversation.

In the latest episode, Rory Dowie and Andrew Shaw explore the key developments investors are watching:

• US debt: The US national debt has passed $40 trillion for the first time, while concerns around government borrowing pushed 30-year Treasury yields to their highest levels since 2007.

• Healthcare innovation: Moderna and Merck announced encouraging late-stage trial results for a personalised mRNA cancer vaccine for melanoma, highlighting the potential role of machine learning and technology in drug discovery.

• UK inflation: Inflation rose to 2.9% in July, up from 2.6% the previous month. Higher gas and electricity costs drove much of the increase, while core inflation remained steady.

The episode also looks ahead to NVIDIA’s latest results, Ofgem’s October energy price cap announcement and the Jackson Hole central banking gathering.

75 destinations. That's how far a Namibian passport takes you without a visa. Meanwhile Singapore opens 192 doors.
That's not just a travel inconvenience. For investors, business owners and high earners, passport strength directly affects where you can bank, where you can live, where your children can study and how freely your wealth can move.
A second citizenship changes that calculation entirely. Let's talk.

Where Namibia's future is being talked about, you'll surely find our team.

A few days ago, Nicholas Harrison and Cecilia Blaauw were at the Windhoek Show Grounds for the 13th Mining Expo & Conference hosted by the Chamber of Mines Namibia. It was two days of conversations with the people actually building Namibia's mining sector from the ground up.

This year's theme, "Mining for Namibia's Future: Job Creation, Local Empowerment, and Economic Transformation," set the tone for everything. When it comes to wealth, economies and planning, it's not just about what's being extracted from the ground, it also was about what's being built on top of it.

For us, staying close to conversations like these isn't just good networking. It's how we make sure we understand the sectors our clients operate in and can serve them better for it.

Long term thinking matters in mining. It matters just as much in wealth planning.

Markets delivered a mixed performance this week as investors weighed encouraging inflation data against higher energy prices, geopolitical uncertainty and softer economic indicators.

While Japan stood out among major equity markets, the US and Europe presented a more balanced picture, and South Africa continued to face challenges across employment, industrial activity and domestic markets.

What’s happening across global markets?

In the latest episode, Rory Dowie and Andrew Shaw take a closer look at three developments shaping the current market environment.

The discussion covers the latest US inflation figures and what the softer reading could mean for the Federal Reserve’s rate debate, alongside an update on UK economic growth, which reached 0.4% in the second quarter.

The conversation then takes an unexpected turn towards the weather - exploring how an exceptionally hot summer and severe wildfires in Europe can have real economic consequences, from food and energy prices to tourism and insurance.

A concise look at the data, trends and developments worth watching this week.

Meet the Veneers, they have the nice house, go for summers in Europe, have all the designer stuff, take their kids to the right schools and exist in the right circles.

Everything looks perfect from the outside.

But a lot of the time it's all held up by a salary. One job loss, one big unexpected bill, and it doesn't look so perfect anymore.

Looking wealthy and actually being wealthy are two very different things.

Real wealth isn't the stuff you show off. It's what you own like assets that grow while you sleep, investments that don't depend on next month's paycheck, a setup that still works even if you're not there.

Most people are working hard on the temporary version. But the one that lasts is a different game.

If you're ready to start building that second kind, come talk to us at Carrick Wealth.
