Donore Credit Union

Donore Credit Union Become part of Ireland’s first and most successful Credit Union located in the Liberties, Dublin 8

Welcome to Donore Credit Union , Ireland’s oldest credit union. The story of Donore Credit Union Limited (DCUL) can be traced back to April 1958 when a meeting of Cumann Muintir Dun Oir ( Donore Parishioner’s Union ) was held in St Joseph’s Hall on Cork Street with the inaugural meeting of the Credit Union taking place on April 26th 1958 at 35 Hamilton Street. The previous year, two sisters Eileen

and Angela Byrne had attended the National Co-operative Council meeting from where they brought the idea back to Donore Avenue. In the beginning the Credit Union operated from St Joseph’s Hall before it rented premises on Ebenezer Street in 1969. In 1991, the Credit Union moved into a purpose built premises on Rutledge Terrace from where it still operates. While the Credit Union had assets of £100 and a membership of 100 in its first year, it quickly grew to where it is today, having assets of €40 million and a membership of just over 5,300. DCUL continues to focus on the core business of loans and savings. The Board is mindful of the credit union’s iconic status as the oldest credit union in the country and wishes to leverage this position with all of its stake-holders including its members and the regulatory authorities. The Board of DCUL is committed to operating in accordance with the credit union principles and to dealing with members in a professional and respectful manner at all times.

Great to see how under-utilised inner-city green spaces can be transformed into growing vegetables, herbs and fruit for the community.

On Saturday, we visited this event in Garden View by Francis Street hosted by Community Roots to teach people about growing vegetables and build beds for planting in an urban environment. Donore Credit Union is proud to be a part of this initiative organised by Community Roots and have recently dedicated a space outside the office for growing food.

Are You Making the Most of Night Rate Electricity?

If you have a smart meter, you could be paying significantly less, just by shifting when you use electricity in your home.

Run these at the night rate to save:
Dishwasher & washing machine
Immersion heater
EV charging
Heat pump for a hot water boost

One thing to keep in mind is night rate works best if you can shift roughly 30% of your electricity use to off-peak hours, so identify what your biggest energy users are and try the switch to night rate when running them.
The more electric your home is, the more you save. A Greenify loan through your local credit union can help you get there.

Call 1800 911 797, email [email protected], or visit www.greenify.ie to see how Greenify can help you make savings on your home energy.

Loans are subject to approval. Terms and conditions apply. If you do not meet the repayments on your loan, your account will go into arrears. This may affect your credit rating which may limit your ability to access credit in the future.

SEAI's new report published on May 19th highlighted that electrification is the future of Ireland's heating systems.

Currently, we are roughly 90% reliant on fossil fuels for home heating. SEAI's findings identified that electricity and ambient heat are projected to supply up to 72% of final heat demand by 2055.

Heat pumps are central to that future and with SEAI grants available, there's never been a better time to make the switch. A Greenify loan can bridge the gap between your grant and the full cost of your heat system upgrade.

If you are considering upgrading to a heat pump system, contact us today by phone 1800 911 797 or email [email protected] to find out more about the loan process.

Visit www.greenify.ie for more information.
