Thank you to everyone who took part in our Pride Month celebrations throughout June, hosted by our LGBTQ+ Committee as part of Matheson’s Impactful Business Programme.

Our annual Pride Table Quiz brought colleagues together for an evening of connection, collaboration and friendly competition. We were delighted to welcome back PJ Kirby, writer, performer and co-host of the chart-topping podcast ‘I’m Grand Mam’, who returned as MC and kept the energy high throughout the night. Congratulations to the winners, who took first place with their impressive knowledge, teamwork and quick thinking.

As a founding member of the OUTLaw Network, we were also proud to take part in the Dublin Pride Parade 2026, marching under the OUTLaw banner alongside colleagues from across the legal sector. Speakers at the pre-pride brunch in Wigwam included Rossa Fanning SC, Katherine Zappone, Rosemary Loftus, Séamus Clarke SC, and Tony Ross from Matheson, who presented the inaugural OUTLaw Pride Award to the LGBT+ Restorative Justice Campaign.

As Pride Month closes, we also recognise the ongoing importance of equality, diversity and inclusion at Matheson. Creating a workplace where everyone feels respected, supported and empowered to be themselves remains central to our culture. Pride is a time for visibility, unity and celebration for the LGBTQ+ community and its allies, and we are proud to champion these values across the firm.

Our Summer interns were pleased to support the 2026 Green Team Network National Clean Up Challenge recently.

This nationwide initiative brings together organisations and communities across Ireland in order to promote sustainability and to contribute to a cleaner, greener future by taking part in a clean-up of our local area.

The initiative was championed within Matheson by Asset Management partner, Orlaith Finan, associate Ciara Hayes, and members of the wider Department, and the event provided a fun opportunity for our interns to work collaboratively outside the office with their colleagues, to contribute towards a common goal and to demonstrate their commitment to environmental responsibility and community engagement.

This week, as part of our Matheson Summer Internship Programme, we were delighted to welcome 46 summer interns from more than 10 universities across Ireland and the UK to our Dublin and Cork offices.

Over the next four weeks, they will each gain some valuable insights into what a career in a large, international law firm is like, as they work alongside Matheson’s lawyers and trainees on real transactions and projects, and further developing their skills through hands-on experience.

From practice area insights to corporate transactions, as well as a range of social and wellness events, our Summer Internship Programme is specifically designed to provide a well-rounded introduction to life as a trainee solicitor at Matheson.

We look forward to supporting our interns throughout their journey and wish them every success in the weeks ahead.

Last Friday, we were delighted to launch the 2026 Matheson Career First Programme, offering students a valuable insight into life at a leading, internationally-focused law firm.

The programme offers an immersive experience, beginning with an on-site insight day, followed by a one-week work experience placement in July, and concluding with a skills-based workshop in October.

Participants will develop key skills and gain a deeper understanding of our collaborative culture, working alongside our experienced, partner-led teams.

A key highlight was the launch of our Career First mentorship initiative. We were delighted to welcome Samuel Elliott and Christine Woods from Meta, who will act as mentors alongside a number of our trainee solicitors, supporting participants throughout the programme. The initiative was launched with a welcome and overview from partner, Sarah Jayne Hanna, followed by a mentor–mentee networking lunch.

Throughout the day, students heard from colleagues across the firm, including an opening welcome from partner, Orlaith Finan, an overview of Matheson’s history delivered by partner, Tara Doyle, and an introduction to our clients and how we work by associate director, Anna O’Grady. Students also took part in a legal research skills workshop led by our Knowledge Management team and a group project, presenting to a panel of solicitors.

A brilliant start to what promises to be an exciting and impactful journey. We look forward to supporting this talented group in the months ahead.

The inaugural Matheson and University College Dublin (UCD) Corporate Governance Hackathon took place in UCD recently.

This multidisciplinary student hackathon brought together students from multiple disciplines to generate innovative ideas and explore emerging technologies.

Students were asked to imagine a multinational company facing a perfect storm: new tariffs, AI-driven workforce changes, ESG scrutiny, and a geopolitical crisis affecting supply chains. Their task was to design a governance toolkit to help boards respond quickly and responsibly.

Susanne McMenamin, partner in our Corporate department and Aoife McPartland, Professor in Corporate Governance and Law at UCD kickstarted a day full of collaboration and mentorship. Representatives from leading organisations including J.P Morgan, Stripe and Smurfit Westrock also participated as panel speakers. Matheson’s Michael Sinnott, senior associate in our Corporate M&A group, moderated for the day. Matheson partner, Calum Warren, from our EU Competition group, was part of the judging panel.

Congratulations to the winning team, which was comprised of Mollie Haughton, Clarissa Rosenbach, Tanja Lehmann, Sergei Malyshev and Katie Dovbnia
