Storm Austen is expected to arrive later this evening and continue throughout tomorrow, bringing strong winds across the Channel Islands. Severe gales are forecast from 10pm tonight until midday tomorrow.
A few simple steps can help reduce the risk of damage:
- Secure loose items such as garden furniture, bins and signage
- Check roofs, gutters and drains are clear to prevent water build-up
- Close and fasten doors, windows and sheds
- Park vehicles away from trees and flood-prone areas like seafronts, where possible
- Check that vessels are securely moored
- If you’re a business owner, review continuity plans and remote access
- If the worst does happen, take photos and keep records to support any insurance claim.
