Marriage Allowance

Did you know that you can transfer 10% of your personal allowance to your spouse reducing their tax by up to £252.

If you earn less than the personal allowance, currently £12,570, and your spouse pays tax at the basic rate (usually up to £50,270 or £43,662 in Scotland) you can share part of this allowance.

HMRC has published the latest Employer Bulletin

Key points to note;

- New NMW rates, to be used from the first pay reference period starting on of after the 1st April
- Small Employers Relief increased to 9% for statutory parental pay
- Student Loan Plan 5 introduced from 6th April, deducted at 9% with an earnings threshold of £25,000
- Starter checklist updated

Tax Bandings for Scotland have changed for the 2026-27 tax year with adjustments to the bands in the 19/20/21% brackets, the point at which employees start to pay tax at 42% remains unchanged.

Tax Bandings for England, Wales & Northern Ireland are unchanged for the new tax 2026-27 tax year

Wales has the right to vary their tax bands but currently this match those for England & Northern Ireland
