Dog behaviour is often labelled as either 'good' or 'bad'. But if we can just get a bit curious about a behaviour, it becomes something else...
🤔 If we can ask the 'why?'...
It becomes. A Question.
To which we can find an answer.
If we know why a dog is doing what they're doing, it makes it so much easier to work things through with them.
Or to relinquish control, and to just observe a behaviour, if it isn't dangerous.
To maybe even really enjoy just observing it!
🙏 If we can accept the behaviour as helpful information...
It becomes. A Fascinating Insight.
Into how our dogs might be thinking and feeling.
If we accept the behaviour as a sign they are struggling with something, for example, we can make it easier for them.
Or perhaps help them to persevere.
Or to find a different way.
🥰 If we can see behaviour as communication...
It becomes. A Way to have An Open Conversation With Our Dogs.
To listen more. To negotiate. To compromise.
↩️ If we can see behaviour as a sign (of insecurity, for example)...
It becomes. A Cue.
To help a dog feel more confident, perhaps.
Or to support them to develop resilience.
👍 If we can understand that a certain behaviour is a response to something in the environment...
It becomes. A Useful Baseline.
Which we can measure, and use to change things in some way.
Usually, in several ways.
🐾 If we can learn more about natural dog behaviour...
It becomes. A Way to Ensure we can Fulfil Their Needs.
In endlessly fascinating, mutually rewarding, relationship nurturing ways.
Basically, just having fun together. 😁
👌 If we can accept that behaviour is just behaviour, we can avoid judging it, labeling it, or punishing it. 🐾💜
