After weeks of sailing around the UK in support of Parkinson's UK, Sailingfreespirit Richard arrived in Poole yesterday as he continues his incredible solo circumnavigation.

We were delighted to organise a berth with Poole Yacht Club and meet him as he arrived. Quinton and Yvonne of the HKJS team had the opportunity to catch up with him, hear stories from his journey so far, and take him out for a well-earned dinner.

From battling challenging weather and technical setbacks to meeting supporters and raising awareness for Parkinson's UK along the way, Richard's voyage has been nothing short of inspiring.

We're proud to be following his journey and can't wait to see him complete the final stretch of this remarkable challenge.

Halfway around Britain for Parkinson's UK

Richard Sailingfreespirit has officially reached the halfway point of his ambitious solo circumnavigation of the UK in support of Parkinson's UK.

The journey so far has brought everything from scorching sunshine and glass-calm seas to bitter winds, challenging conditions, and countless miles under sail. Along the way, he's encountered dolphins, explored remote anchorages, met incredible people, and continued spreading awareness of Parkinson's UK wherever he goes.

Richard's determination to keep moving forward and make a difference has remained constant.

"As I turn the corner into the second half of this voyage, the mission remains unchanged: keep pushing ahead, raising awareness, and bringing in vital support for Parkinson's UK, one nautical mile at a time."

Journey Update: A night Richard won't forget

We've had a second update from Richard Sailingfreespirit whilst he circumnavigates the UK for Parkinson's UK

After leaving Padstow and making for Lundy Island, Richard found himself facing one of the toughest moments of his UK circumnavigation so far.

A shifting wind, a trapped anchor, hidden rocks, and complete isolation in the darkness left him battling through the night to keep both himself and Ketty11 safe. Richard had to rely on his seamanship, preparation, and determination until daylight finally arrived.

It's a gripping reminder of the realities of life at sea and the resilience behind his mission to raise awareness and funds for Parkinson's UK.

A fantastic day for HKJ Specialist at Rockley Watersports 50th Birthday celebrations! 🎉

The day kicked off with the anniversary regatta, where our Business Development Manager, Quinton, teamed up with Rob Kemp of Kemp Sails and took on the fleet, securing a respectable 3rd in class overall. 🏆

The celebrations continued with an incredible black-tie evening alongside a room full of marine industry professionals. Most importantly, the event raised over £12,000 for Julia's House, Rockley's chosen local charity.

We're also proud to have donated a paddle board to support the raffle and help raise funds for such a worthy cause.

A huge thank you to Rockley Watersports for the invitation and for putting on such a memorable event. Here's to the next 50 years! 🎂

What a fantastic day at Plymouth Boat Fest , sponsored by Haven Knox-Johnston! 🚤

It was great for our Plymouth team to be out on the waterfront, soaking up the atmosphere and chatting with so many passionate boat owners and marine enthusiasts. From inspiring boats to brilliant conversations, the day perfectly captured what makes the marine community so special.

Officially opened by Rebecca Smith, the local MP, and with the weather holding out, it was a brilliant day to be meeting customers, both old and new. There was plenty to see too, including an impressive RNLI rescue demonstration and Marine AI showcasing their autonomous craft.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello, ask questions, or share their stories — we loved meeting you all. And of course, a big thank you to Plymouth Yacht Haven for hosting such a great event.

Richard set sail in May with the goal of circumnavigating the UK to raise money for Parkinson's UK and his first few weeks have already delivered a powerful reminder of what life at sea is really like.

From fuel leaks and engine issues to storm delays on the Cornish coast, the challenge has tested his resilience from the very beginning. But through it all, the support of the sailing community and the generosity of those he meets along the way, has kept him moving forward.
