It may be April Fool’s Day but it’s important we stay alert for scammers every day.

Not to scare you but there are always some sort of scams doing the rounds and it’s important we remain alert.

Here are the three types of scams to be aware of so you’re not tricked by scammers this spring and summer.

📲 Cold Call Scammers

Cold call scammers try to sell you something that sounds too good to be true and often apply pressure by saying something “this is a one time offer” to get you to act on impulse.

If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Be extra careful is someone calls you out of the blue and never hand over personal information like your full name, address, contact information or bank details.

🤞 Opportunity Scammers

These scammers will try and tempt you with the premise of investing your money for huge returns and will often use popular celebrities as brand ambassadors to gain your trust and make them seem real.

If you have any doubt, take a step back and do your own research. If they don’t want you to look into it yourself, this is a clear sign that something is wrong.

💸 Money Launders Scammers

These scams are often suffocated and hard to identify if you don’t know what you’re looking for. It often involves someone asking you to store money in your bank account for them with the promise of a reward.

If someone asks to put money into your account for them, say no and report it to the police.

Good news! From the first pound right up to £120,000 - it’s all protected.

The FSCS deposit protection limit has increased to £120,000 per eligible person, per authorised firm.

You don’t need to do anything — FSCS protection is automatic.

We’re looking for new volunteer Non-Executive Directors to join the board of Thistle Credit Union and we especially keen to speak with women, people from diverse communities and those who may not see themselves in board roles.

You don’t need to have done this before. If you care about fair finance, strong communities and helping people improve their financial wellbeing; your lived experience and perspective matters.

As a Non-Executive Director you’ll help guide strategy, strengthen governance and support the future of ethical, community-based finance that makes a real difference to people’s lives.

The role is voluntary and typically involves just a few hours each month.
