πŸ’· If you need to borrow money, you've got choices.

Banks. Credit cards.m Buy Now Pay Later. Online lenders. And probably another 47 adverts waiting for you on Facebook. πŸ˜…

But there's another option. Your local credit union.

EKCU provides loans to members, with affordability at the heart of our lending decisions.

We're local. We're regulated. And there's an actual team of people behind the screen.

Borrowing should never be something to rush into.

But when borrowing is right for you, it's worth knowing all your options.

πŸ’™ Including us.

If someone tells you that you should have hundreds or thousands sitting in an emergency fund when you've currently got Β£3.42...

that's not particularly helpful. πŸ˜‚

So forget Β£1,000. Let's aim for your first Β£100.

Β£10 at a time. Β£20 on payday. A wee bit extra when you can.

That Β£100 might not solve every emergency.

But it's Β£100 between you and the credit card when the tyre needs replaced, the washing machine packs in or life decides to be expensive.

First Β£10. Then Β£50. Then Β£100.

Small savings become useful savings.

πŸ‘‹ MEET STACY

Every team needs a newbie. ✨

Stacy joined EKCU just three months ago as part of our Member Services team β€” and thankfully, so far so good. πŸ˜‚ If you've phoned us recently, there's a fair chance you've already spoken to her.

She's friendly, loves a good chit-chat and is quickly learning that working in a Credit Union involves considerably more variety than you might expect. She's still working through her training, but that's all part of it.

One minute you're helping a member with a query. The next you're learning something completely new. And that's actually one of the things Stacy likes most about the job. She joined EKCU because she liked the idea of the team spirit, variety and being somewhere that genuinely helps people.

Although there was already a funny little EKCU connection... Stacy actually grew up next door to one of our long-standing directors and volunteers. East Kilbride really is a small world. πŸ˜‚

And there's one other thing we've learned very quickly:
If Stacy is nearby... A can of Pepsi Max probably isn't far away. πŸ₯€πŸ‘€

Welcome to the team, Stacy. πŸ’™

πŸ’· Could you save Β£5 this week?

Not Β£500. Not Β£50. Just a fiver.

Because sometimes we make saving sound much harder than it needs to be.

Start with Β£5. Then do it again. And again.

The amount isn't really the important bit at the beginning.

The habit is.

Who's putting a fiver away this week? πŸ‘€

πŸ’… A little Louise from Finance reminder...

You paid the mortgage. You paid the council tax. You paid Netflix. You paid the phone bill.

You paid everybody. Did you pay yourself? πŸ‘€

Try treating your savings like another bill. Payday arrives β†’ something goes into savings. Even if it's small.

Don't wait until the end of the month and save "whatever is left". Because somehow...there's never very much left. πŸ˜‚

Pay yourself first.

Louise from Finance x

πŸ‘‹ MEET LINDA

If your circumstances change and keeping up with things suddenly becomes a little harder, Linda is one of the people you might speak to.

As our Payment Support Officer, Linda works with members whose circumstances may have changed, helping them understand their position, keep things on track where possible and, importantly, providing a listening ear.

Because behind an account number is a person. And sometimes life doesn't go according to plan. That's something we never want to lose sight of at EKCU. πŸ’™

After many years as part of the team, Linda will sadly be leaving us for a very well-earned retirement in December β€” although we're not quite ready to talk about that yet. πŸ₯Ή

Until then, you'll find her doing what she does best... Helping members. Talking about her beloved dog. And almost certainly with a coffee somewhere nearby. β˜•πŸΆ

This is the bit of a Credit Union you don't always see from the outside.

Real people, having real conversations and trying to help.

πŸ’™ People helping people.

πŸ“± Still picturing a credit union as somewhere you have to visit with a savings book?

We need to have a word. πŸ˜‚

EKCU has moved on. With our app, members can manage their EKCU account without needing to pop into the office for everyday things.

Which means your local credit union can come with you... on the sofa. on your lunch break. on holiday. or while you're pretending to watch whatever everyone else has put on Netflix. πŸ‘€

Local doesn't have to mean old-fashioned.

πŸ’™ EKCU in your pocket.

New month. New payslip. Same money disappearing act? πŸ‘€

Before September gets a chance to spend all your money for you, try something different.

Pay yourself first.

Β£10. Β£20. Β£50. Whatever works for your budget.

Move it into your EKCU savings when you get paid β€” before you start spending what's left.

You don't need to suddenly become brilliant with money.

You just need one small habit that future-you will appreciate.

September challenge: Save something before you spend anything.

Love,

Louise from Finance x πŸ’™

🌧️ What does a rainy-day fund actually buy you?

Technically?

Nothing… until the day you need it.

Then suddenly that Β£10 here and Β£20 there becomes:
πŸ’™ breathing room
πŸ’™ options
πŸ’™ one less thing to panic about

You don't need hundreds of pounds before saving becomes worthwhile.

You just need to start.

Because sometimes the real value of savings isn't the balance showing on your app.

It's knowing you've got something there when life happens.

Small savings. Big difference.
