What I wish someone told me before I bought my first home.
Buying your first home is a big step and there's a lot you might not know.
1. There are more costs than just the deposit.
Think legal fees, surveys, valuation costs, stamp duty and moving expenses.
2. You don't need a massive deposit.
Some lenders accept 5% deposits or less, but aiming higher gives you more options.
3. Getting a mortgage isn't just about income.
Lenders look at your outgoings, credit score, and how you manage everyday spending.
4. You can (and should) get a mortgage Agreement in Principle early.
It shows sellers you're serious and gives you a clearer picture of your budget.
5. Speaking to an adviser makes a huge difference.
They'll explain your options clearly, help avoid delays, and guide you from start to finish.
