In retirement, the instinct is to seek safety. GICs. Bonds. Cash. Anything that feels stable.

But here's what most people don't consider: playing it too safe can quietly become its own kind of risk.

Retirement today can last 25 to 35 years or more. That's a long time for inflation to erode your purchasing power – and for an overly conservative portfolio to fall short of the income your lifestyle requires.

The real risk in retirement isn't market volatility. It's ensuring your income outlasts your time horizon.

A smarter approach balances both.

Your retirement should be prosperous, not just protected.

Here's something most investment firms won't tell you: the biggest risk to your portfolio isn't market volatility.

It's your own behaviour.

Behavioural finance research consistently shows that investor behaviour is one of the leading causes of long-term underperformance.

The pattern is remarkably consistent. When markets drop, fear sets in, investors sell. When markets recover, confidence returns and investors buy back in. Usually at higher prices.

The principle is simple in theory, but notoriously difficult in practice. When headlines are alarming and your portfolio value is declining, staying the course takes genuine discipline.
This is why having an evidence-based investment strategy and a trusted advisor matters so much.

Here’s how it looks in practice:

We build a portfolio designed for your specific risk tolerance and time horizon.
We maintain discipline during periods of market volatility.
We focus on long-term outcomes, not short-term noise.
We therefore avoid the costly cycle of emotional buying and selling.

Markets go up. Markets go down. The investors who succeed over the long term are the ones who resist the urge to react – and trust the process.

We're here to help you be that investor.

Managing your wealth isn't just about picking the right investments. It's about making sure every piece of your financial life is working together. Things like investments, tax strategies, and estate plans are stronger when someone is looking at the big picture.

Most people manage these pieces in isolation. A wealth advisor handles their portfolio. An accountant manages their taxes. A lawyer looks after their estate. Each professional does excellent work – but without coordination, there are gaps. Sometimes costly ones.

At Anderson and Morden Private Wealth, we say we act as your personal CFO, which ultimately means we’re the central hub that coordinates your entire financial life.

So what does that really mean?

1. Seamless coordination with your accountant to ensure investment strategies are tax optimized

2. Collaboration with your legal team on estate and succession planning

3. Corporate account structuring for maximum tax efficiency

4. Disciplined, evidence-based portfolio management aligned with your goals

When all of these pieces work in harmony, you get better outcomes.

You've worked hard to build your wealth. You deserve a team that coordinates every detail.

Ever wonder why some investments perform better than others over the long run? It turns out, there's a solid science behind it.

At Anderson and Morden, we follow The Fama-French three-factor model (along with many others) that helps explain the main reasons behind portfolio returns. Developed by two Nobel laureates, this framework shows that most of what drives investment success can be broken down into three key factors:

Market Risk Premium
Simply put, stocks tend to outperform safer investments like bonds over time. That extra return is the reward for taking on more risk if it works for your portfolio .

Size Factor
Small companies have historically delivered higher returns than big ones, because investors are compensated for the extra risk of investing in smaller firms.

Value Factor
Stocks that are undervalued – meaning they trade at lower prices relative to their fundamentals – have historically outperformed the more popular growth stocks.

By understanding these factors, we can build portfolios that are designed to capture these proven sources of return. Instead of trying to guess what the market will do, we tilt your investments toward these factors, which have shown to deliver over decades.

At Anderson and Morden, we use this evidence-based approach to help you grow, and protect your wealth in a disciplined way – grounded in research, not guesswork.

It’s smart investing made simple.

As a business owner, have you planned for succession to ensure your life’s work protected?

Whether you're 5 years or 15 years from exit, every business owner needs clear answers to these questions:

Who will take over?
Family member? Key employee? Outside buyer? Each path requires different preparation.

️When will the transition happen?
Timing affects valuation, tax implications, and your personal readiness to step away.

How will you realize value?
Lump sum sale? Earn-out? Gradual transfer? Your liquidity needs drive the structure.

What are the tax implications?
Capital gains, lifetime exemptions, estate taxes – proper planning can save hundreds of thousands.

How will family dynamics be managed?
If some family members are involved and others aren't, how do you ensure fairness?

Your business is more than an asset – it's your legacy. Strategic succession planning ensures it transitions smoothly and your family is financially secure.

At Anderson and Morden, we help business owners coordinate succession and ensure nothing is left to chance.

Let's make sure your life's work is protected.
