I'd like to share Dr. Sujay Patel's story with you.

With an IG Advisor’s guidance, he successfully navigated the sale of his business, unlocked greater business value and gained the freedom to focus on his next chapter.

Let’s discuss how a well-crafted financial plan that puts you at the centre can do the same for you.

Your business is more than just numbers!

For many entrepreneurs, their business represents years of hard work, sacrifice, and vision.

Succession planning is about more than finances—
It’s about protecting what you’ve built and ensuring it continues in the right hands.

A well-structured plan can:
✔ Preserve your legacy
✔ Support your family
✔ Maintain continuity for clients and staff

What legacy do you want your business to leave behind?

Client education isn’t just part of what we do — it’s at the core of every conversation we have.

In an industry where it can be easy to focus on products and outcomes, it’s important to step back and ask: Do our clients truly understand the decisions they’re making?

A recent article by Jeff Cait challenges the life insurance industry to shift away from persuasion and toward education, introducing the concept of “Generally Accepted Life Insurance Principles” (GALIP). It’s a strong reminder that clarity, transparency, and informed decision-making should always come first.

At the end of the day, our role isn’t just to provide solutions — it’s to ensure our clients feel confident, informed, and empowered in every step of the process.

Because when clients understand the why, they make better long-term decisions.

What happens to your business when you step away?

Most business owners spend years building their company—but far fewer spend time planning how to exit it. A strong succession plan isn’t just about retirement.

It’s about:
▪️ Protecting the value, you’ve built
▪️ Supporting employees and clients
▪️ Creating tax-efficient transitions
▪️ Ensuring your legacy continues

3 Key Questions Every Business Owner Should Ask

If you own a business, your exit strategy matters just as much as your growth strategy.

Here are three questions to consider:
1️⃣ Who will take over the business?
2️⃣ How will the transition be funded?
3️⃣ What is the tax impact of your plan?
Without clear answers, transitions can become stressful, costly, and disruptive.

Planning ahead gives you control over the outcome—not just the exit.

How do we honour the people we love living with Alzheimer’s?

We walk because someone we love deserves to be supported and surrounded by community.

Join us the last weekend of May for the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s.

• Over 750,000 people in Canada are living with dementia, and many of us walk to honour parents, partners, grandparents, and friends.
• Walking together creates space for hope, comfort, and connection.
• Funds raised strengthen the supports families rely on every day.

6 Common Pitfalls When Donating

1️⃣ Assuming you can only give a little - proper planning can show you just how much you can give to causes you care about.
2️⃣ Correct name and charity number: the Food bank is a national program, the Red Deer Food Bank is solely for Red Deer.
3️⃣ Cash or Investments: donating investments in-kind will eliminate capital gains.
4️⃣ Understanding the Gift: does the charity know how the gift works i.e. life insurance.
5️⃣ Can the charity accept your type of gift? some cannot accept investments.
6️⃣ Intention: did you ask the charity what they intend to do with the gift?

Avoid these mistakes and make your generosity go further!
