❤️ Preserving the Path: Honouring Indigenous Veterans

Join Milton Public Library on November 6 for a commemorative ceremony honouring First Nations, Inuit, and Métis veterans and recognizing their courage, sacrifices, and lasting contributions to Canada.

The ceremony will feature a smudge, presentations, ceremonial dance, commemorative artwork, and the laying of wreaths as we come together in remembrance, reflection, and respect.

Looking for a fun evening for the whole family? Join us for Family Swim & Game Night, brought to you by the Family Support Unit! Enjoy swimming, games, dinner, and time to connect with other MCFN families.

📅 Starting Thursday, November 12th, and continuing on the second Thursday of each month
⏰ 5–7 p.m.
🍽️ Dinner provided

A lifeguard will be present during swim time, and children must be accompanied by an adult.

📜 Treaty Week: Head of the Lake Treaty, No. 14 (1806)
The Head of the Lake Treaty confirmed an agreement between the Mississaugas of the Credit and the Crown involving lands west of the Toronto Purchase.

The agreement included provisions preserving fishing rights at 12 Mile Creek, 16 Mile Creek and the Credit River.

From Oakville to Mississauga and parts of Burlington, the lands covered by this treaty include communities many people call home today.

📜 Treaty Week: Toronto Purchase Treaty, No. 13 (1805)In 1805, the Mississaugas of the Credit entered into a new agreement with the Crown following longstanding concerns surrounding the original Toronto Purchase of 1787.

The agreement involved approximately 250,830 acres, with the Mississaugas retaining the exclusive right to fish on Etobicoke Creek.

📍 Treaty 13 is on display until November 6th at the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario at Queen’s Park in Toronto. MCFN members are encouraged to visit, if able, and learn more about this important part of our history.

If you live or work in Etobicoke, Toronto, North York, York or Vaughan, you’re within the area covered by the Toronto Purchase Treaty.
