🏡 SMSF Property Investors – Important Proposed Change

A recent agreement between Labor and the Greens includes a proposal to ban NEW Limited Recourse Borrowing Arrangements (LRBAs) for residential property purchases within Self-Managed Super Funds (SMSFs).

What does this mean?

✅ Existing SMSF property loans are proposed to be grandfathered.
✅ SMSFs could still invest in property using available cash or potentially lend with commercial property. Have to wait for these changes.
❌ New borrowing through an SMSF to purchase residential property may no longer be permitted.

For many Australians, SMSF lending has been a pathway to acquiring residential and commercial property within their retirement strategy. If implemented, this proposal could significantly change how future SMSF property investments are structured.
