There’s something pretty special about footy in the country, and this weekend up at Dowerin was one of those days that reminded us why. We were proud to sponsor the Buddy Franklin match between Dowerin and Gingin — and it turned out to be a day that meant a whole lot more than just the result.
The game itself was played for a great reason. AFL legend Lance “Buddy” Franklin pulled the boots back on for a one-off comeback with the Dowerin Tigers, all to support his hometown and junior club. The goal was to raise funds for much-needed upgrades at the ground, particularly new lighting, and to help set the club up for the future.
Buddy started his footy there as a young kid, and this was about giving something back to the place and people who helped him get his start. It was a proper homecoming.
Like many others, we made the trip up to watch. The ground was packed with a real buzz around the place from start to finish. It’s not every day you see a player of Buddy’s calibre back running around on a country oval.
The footy didn’t disappoint either. Both sides had a crack, but it was Dowerin who made the most of the occasion, running out winners in front of a pumped-up home crowd.
Off the field, it was everything you’d hope for from a day like this. The kind of day where the whole community gets behind something bigger than themselves.
Most importantly, the day did exactly what it set out to do. It brought attention, support, and funding toward improving the club’s facilities, helping ensure Dowerin footy stays strong for the next generation.
We’re proud to have played a small part in a day like this. Big thanks to the Dowerin Tigers and everyone involved for having us, and well done on pulling off such a special event.
And of course, well done to Dowerin on the win — a fitting result on a day that was always about more than just the scoreboard.
