POV: You’re a mortgage broker in 1985… 🏄♂️😂
No online applications.
No comparison websites.
No electronic signatures.
And if you thought interest rates were scary now… hold onto your mullet. 😳
In 1985, standard Australian home loan rates were sitting around 11.5% and climbed as high as 13.5% by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, the median Sydney house price was approximately $88,350.
By 1989, Sydney’s median had jumped to around $170,850… while housing interest rates would eventually reach around 17%. 😬
So maybe the 80s weren’t quite as financially carefree as the movies, the mullets and the beach photos suggest. 😂
Different decade. Different interest rates. Same dream: owning your own piece of Australia. 🏡
