It was a pleasure hosting Melbourne Football Club’s Tom Sparrow and Bailey Laurie at our office for their recent internship!

Tom and Bailey spent time with our teams in investment management, financial advice, and operations, getting a first-hand look at what it’s like to work beyond the footy field.

Both players brought great energy, asked insightful questions, and quickly became part of the team – it was fantastic to see their genuine interest in learning more about our industry.

We wish Bailey and Tom all the best for the remainder of the AFL season, and we’re excited to follow their journeys beyond football – we’re confident they'll succeed in whatever comes next.

With Winter now upon us, it’s time to embrace the joys of the cooler months of the year.

Now that the federal election is out of the way, and another financial year is drawing to a close, it's a perfect time to look back at all you’ve achieved over the past 12 months and focus on a fresh start for the financial year to come.

While market volatility continued, markets largely recovered from April's losses in May. However, the legal and economic uncertainty of US tariffs remain a key concern for global and local markets.

While many Australians had the opportunity to enjoy two consecutive long weekends in April, as we move into May the focus is now on the federal election.

Labor secured a second term in a landslide victory, with Anthony Albanese returning as Prime Minister. The result is expected to bring policy stability in the near term, although attention will turn quickly to how the government addresses cost of living pressures and housing affordability.

The month of April was marked by economic uncertainty and global trade tensions that drove market declines and volatility. These events are anticipated to influence the RBA’s cash rate decisions, as will the recent decline in core inflation to within the target range.

As we settle into the rhythm of April, recent movements in the share market have served as a reminder that volatility is never far away. While not always comfortable, it’s something long-term investors have seen before — and history shows the value of staying the course through uncertain times.

In this month’s newsletter, we take a closer look at major aged care reforms coming into effect from 1 July, including new government support initiatives and changes that could impact families planning ahead. We touch on the 4 pillars to your wellbeing – mindset, healthset, heartset, and soulset. Finally, we revisit the Federal Budget announcements, which introduced updates to personal tax thresholds, support for small businesses, and further funding across aged care and essential services.

Welcome to our Federal Budget update!

Designed with the upcoming election campaign in mind, the Budget’s focus is on the cost of living along with housing, education, Medicare and strengthening the economy.

Many of the Budget’s programs have already been announced but Treasurer Jim Chalmers has added $17 billion in tax cuts to sweeten the pot. Health is also in for attention with more bulk billing, more Urgent Care Clinics and cheaper medicines.

Treasury forecasts for our economy are quietly positive, given the serious concerns about global growth, saying Australia is emerging “in better shape than almost any other advanced economy”.

As we say goodbye to the heat of summer, we can look forward to enjoying the cooler days ahead. Along with the drop in temperature, the RBA brought much relief to mortgage holders and dropped the cash rate by 25 basis points in February. The cash rate is now sitting at 4.10 per cent following the first rate-reduction since November 2020.

Inflation remained steady in February, at 2.5 per cent and core inflation at 2.8 per cent; however, the RBA remains cautious and has not guaranteed further cash rate cuts in 2025. Some economists are predicting further cuts in 2025, but time will tell.

While there is ongoing tension between Russia-Ukraine and the Middle East, and a looming trade war due to Trump’s proposed tariffs, the global economic outlook continues to remain unpredictable.

We had an incredible day at the Corporate Triathlon, bringing the team together for a fun mix of competition, teamwork, and camaraderie.

Some of us powered through the full triathlon, others tackled a single leg, and a few took charge of the BBQ – all contributing to a memorable event.

It was fantastic to see our colleagues and their families supporting each other and sharing in the excitement.

Special shout-out to Josh, Scott and Bernie who placed 1st out of 187 Finance and Insurance teams!

As investors grapple with uncertainty, keeping a cool head has never been more important.

“Time in the market, not timing the market" is a popular investment philosophy that emphasises the importance of staying invested over the long term rather than trying to predict short-term market movements. While markets can be volatile in the short term, historically, they tend to grow over time.

Some of our advisers, partners, and clients recently enjoyed a wonderful dinner and evening at the Australian Open, cheering on Alex de Minaur - Australia’s top-ranked player - and Olivia Gadecki in two well played matches.

While Gadecki’s run came to an end, the energy of the night celebrated the same values we champion - strong partnerships, strategic thinking, and a commitment to success. Whether you’re on the tennis court or planning your financial future, having the right team behind you makes all the difference.
