DISCRETIONARY TRUSTS: In the 2026 Federal Budget, the Government announced a minimum 30% tax on discretionary trusts as part of the most sweeping tax reforms in more than two decades.

Since the announcement, consultation has led to tweaks and changes to address concerns about the practical application of this new minimum tax – expected to be introduced from 01 July 2028.

It seems the Government has listened to criticism of the controversial features of their original proposal and now updated exposure draft legislation is doing the rounds.

FOR JAI. FOR MND. This morning, we jumped on board the "World's Biggest Birthday Party" a few days early – but all for a tremendous cause.

We put on our favourite footy jerseys and birthday hats, enjoyed some birthday cake and – most importantly – raised money and awareness for Motor Neuron Disease (MND) research.

Jai Arrow – Norths Devil, Brisbane Bronco, Gold Coast Titan, South Sydney Rabbitoh and Queensland Maroon – was recently diagnosed with MND. It's a heartbreaking story, but it has also created a groundswell of support for Jai, his family and others living with this devastating disease.

ATO and myGov Scam Warning – Stay Alert This Tax Time!

As we approach 2026 tax time, the Australian Tax Office (ATO) has issued a warning about impersonation scams using ATO and myGov branding. These scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated and can affect all Australians — even if you don’t lodge a tax return.

What to watch for:
• unexpected messages asking for personal or financial information
• emails or texts with links to log into your myGov account
• messages that create urgency or pressure to act quickly
• sender details that don’t end in “.gov.au”

Scammers may contact you via phone, email or SMS — and even create fake websites that look legitimate — to trick you into sharing your details.

How to protect yourself:
• do not click links in unsolicited messages
• never share your myGov login details
• always verify directly via official ATO channels
