60 with $800,000 in super. How much can you spend each year without running out?

An amount on its own is only part of the story. Consider what you want retirement to look like and what it will cost.

PLEASE NOTE: These are only Projections and not a guaranteed outcome. Returns aren't guaranteed.

How do I know if I have enough money to retire?

Spending: what will the lifestyle you want cost each year?

Income: where will it come from? Super, part-time work, investment properties.

Timeframe: how long does your money need to last? (Tough one!)

Start with the end in mind, then work backwards.

Take money out of super, put it back in, and come out ahead?

Here’s how a TTR strategy can boost your savings, step by step.

What is a transition to retirement strategy?

If you're 60 to 64 and still working, you can turn part of your super into a regular income (4% to 10% a year), generally tax-free.

Use it to ease into retirement by topping up part-time pay, or to boost your savings by making additional tax-deductible super contributions.

It can be complicated, so get advice to check the numbers work for you.

"I wish I'd have known that earlier."

It's not usually a big, terrible financial decision.

More often it's an opportunity people didn't even know existed, like how super death benefits are taxed, or what they could have done to reduce the tax when selling investments.

Once the opportunity is gone, you often can't get it back.

So if you've got a big decision or a big life event coming up, the best time to ask for help is before you've made the decision, not after.

Is the retirement age in Australia 60, 65 or 67?

The answer depends on what you’re asking. There’s no set age you have to retire, but there are a few ages worth knowing for super and the Age Pension.

Swipe through for the quick version, then save it for later.

How much do you need to retire?

There's no magic number.

A better question is what you want your retirement to look like? Then focus on what you can do today to start working towards it.

Nothing changes automatically.

Your super stays invested in the same account until you decide what happens next.

Many people move some of it into an account-based pension to replace their work income.

It's still in the super environment, so the money can remain invested while paying you a regular income.
