Every 10 days, Australia loses a farmer to su***de – a sobering reminder of the challenges many farming families continue to face as they recover from droughts, floods, bushfires and rising costs.
Farm Angels is calling on Australians to wear a flannelette shirt on Friday, August 14 as part of its annual Flanno for a Farmer campaign, raising funds to provide practical support for farmers doing it tough.
Since the campaign began, more than $1.26 million has been raised to help deliver emergency financial assistance, food hampers, care packages and mental health and wellbeing support to farming families across the country.
Australian-owned lager brand travla - founded by actor Travis Fimmel (pictured) and a group of his farmboy mates - has been a supporter of the Farm Angels and Flanno For A Farmer since 2023.
“I’ve seen neighbours, mates, and my own family struggle with what the land throws at them - droughts, floods, fires, isolation,” Fimmel said.
“Every ten days, we lose a farmer to su***de. That’s not just a stat - that’s something we need to change.”
Once again, travla will be donating 100 percent of their beer sales on Flanno For A Farmer Day to Farm Angels, in addition to helping spread awareness of the campaign and hosting fundraising ‘flanno nights’ at pubs across the country.
Farm Angels founder Natasha Johnston said even a simple gesture could make a meaningful difference.
"Throwing on a flanno is a simple way to show they're not alone, but it's the donations behind it that allow us to provide practical support when families need it most."
