INTEREST RATE UPDATE

Most of the Big Four banks believe we’re at, or very close to, the peak of the rate cycle.

Current forecasts suggest:

CBA and ANZ expect no further rate rises.

NAB predicts one final 0.25% increase.

Westpac sees the possibility of a small rise before rates ease.

Most banks expect rate cuts to begin in 2027.

While forecasts can change, now is a great time to review your home loan and ensure you’re still on a competitive rate.

A small rate reduction could save you thousands over the life of your loan.

Many banks are still offering sharper rates to new customers than loyal existing ones. And while 0.10% might not sound like much of a discount, on a $700,000 loan over 30 years, it could save you tens of thousands of dollars.

Reverse mortgages are becoming a much bigger conversation lately.

For some retirees, they can provide breathing room, help fund renovations, clear debt, assist children into the property market, or simply improve cash flow without needing to sell the family home.

But like any lending strategy, they’re not one size fits all.

There are pros, risks, long term impacts on equity, and important things families should understand before making any decisions.

I think education around these products is really important, because there’s still a lot of confusion and stigma attached to them.
