ZIMBABWE'S DIASPORA REMITTANCES COULD EXCEED US$3.2 BILLION IN 2026.
Money sent home by Zimbabweans living abroad is becoming an increasingly important part of the country's economy.
According to reports published on 25–26 October 2026, Zimbabwe's diaspora remittance inflows are projected to surpass US$3.2 billion this year, compared with US$2.45 billion recorded in 2025.
Remittances reportedly reached US$1.55 billion during the first half of 2026, representing a 41.4% increase over the corresponding period in 2025.
Why does this matter?
Money sent from abroad supports household expenses, education, healthcare, housing and business activities. It also contributes to the country's supply of foreign currency.
Financial institutions are increasingly exploring ways to connect remittance income with savings, lending and investment opportunities.
This signals an important shift: remittances are not only helping families meet immediate needs, but could also support longer-term financial development.
For Zimbabweans living abroad, every transfer represents more than a transaction. It can help a family manage expenses, support a child's education or invest in a better future.
What do you think is the biggest contribution of diaspora remittances to Zimbabwe's economy?
