Happy Africa Day! 🌍

True celebration means building a country where our families can actually thrive.

At Third Way Investment Partners, we help institutional investors deploy capital into the infrastructure Africa needs, managing the complexity so funds earn strong, inflation-beating returns while creating real jobs and building the communities our members retire into.

We were honoured to join the PRI 20th Anniversary event at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, marking an important milestone for responsible investment and reflecting on its continued role in creating long-term value in an increasingly interconnected world.

Following the discussions, our Chairman John Oliphant shares his South African perspective on why responsible investment still matters and the role it can continue to play in shaping long-term impact:

πŸ“ On 14 May, we will be at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange as our Chairman, John Oliphant, speaks at the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) 20th Anniversary event.

πŸ“ˆ Over the last two decades, responsible investment has evolved from a niche idea into a vital tool for understanding risk and driving long-term value.

🀝 This event is a full-circle moment for our team. John previously served as PRI’s African representative from 2009 to 2013, and we are proud to see this work continue.

Today, as investors face increasingly interconnected global risks, collaboration is more important than ever.

We look forward to a practical, forward-looking conversation about the next 20 years of responsible investing.

This Easter Weekend, we’re taking a pause to ask a simple and powerful question: What are we actually building?

In a rush of everyday life filled with deadlines, decisions, and to-do lists, it's easy to lose sight of the bigger picture.

But the most enduring things in life, like strong communities, thriving economies, and lasting legacies, are rarely built overnight. They are built through patience, sacrifice, and a willingness to invest in something whose full reward you may not immediately see.

Think about it:
✨ A solar power plant that powers a rural community
✨ A housing development that gives a family stability
✨ A wind farm that keeps the lights on for a hospital

None of these happen in a quarter. They happen over decades, because someone chose to think long-term when it was easier not to.

This Easter weekend, as we reflect on themes of sacrifice, renewal, and hope, ask yourself:

Where am I planting seeds today that I trust will grow, even if I won't see the harvest tomorrow?

That question guides everything we do at Third Way Investment Partners. πŸ’š

From our family to yours, wishing you a peaceful, restful, and meaningful Easter weekend. 🌸🐣

πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦ Over the weekend, we commemorated Human Rights Day. This gave us a chance to reflect on economic freedom as a foundation for dignity and opportunity in South Africa. βš–οΈ

Our Constitution enshrines socio-economic rights: housing, decent work, a healthy environment, and meaningful economic participation. Turning these principles into sustainable outcomes requires long-term capital.

Infrastructure investment plays an important role by aligning pension funds’ long-term liabilities with assets that generate returns while supporting developmental impact.

At Third Way Investment Partners, our fund of funds platforms provide access to economic infrastructure, social housing, green economy projects, and private equity strategies that support job creation. Our work alongside institutional investors, including through co-investments and secondaries, seeks to maximise both financial and developmental outcomes.

When institutional capital is directed toward productive infrastructure, it can contribute to inclusive growth and long-term socio-economic progress.

🌊 March is Water Month. This presents an urgent wake-up call for South Africa's crumbling water infrastructure! With >40% lost to leaks and bursts (2023 Blue Drop Report), near-Day Zero threats in cities like Cape Town, the recent dry taps in Gauteng, and a massive infrastructure gap ahead, we are on the edge.

Pension funds hold the power! Long-term liabilities need inflation-linked returns + development impact. Enter diversified infrastructure debt: funding desalination, smart metering, wastewater recycling & more.

At Third Way Partners, our infrastructure Debt Fund of Funds delivers curated access to 66 projects reflecting our broader infrastructure investment strategy, with a strong renewables base and growing focus on water infrastructure, via top managers, tech diversification & bid windows (Rounds 1-4+). Beyond returns: Driving United Nations SDG 6 for clean water, resilient infrastructure, jobs & stability. Sustainable water = investible alpha for retirees & SA's just transition!

Can institutional capital close the water gap in time? Share your thoughts below.

We're proud to share that our CEO, Fulufhelo Makwetla, will be a panellist at the Prescient Investment Management Infrastructure Conference on 19 March 2026. 🎀

This year marks a major milestone for Prescient as it celebrates 10 years of infrastructure investing. The conference will be held under the theme, "A Decade of Impact: Infrastructure for the Future."

For us, Fulu's invitation is more than a speaking slot. It's a recognition of the work we're doing to help pension funds invest in infrastructure in a way that's practical, responsible, and built for the long term. 🀝

If you'll be at the conference, we'd love to connect! And if you're following from afar: what infrastructure priorities should shape the next 10 years? πŸ’¬
