Scam Warning – Please Be Careful

I just want to make the public aware that there has recently been an increase in cold calls and messages targeting consumers currently under debt review.

These callers often promise things like:
• “Instant removal from debt review”
• “Lower instalments”
• “A better debt counsellor”
• “Fast-track clearance”

Please be extremely cautious.

Many of these companies use pressure tactics, misleading information, or make promises that are simply not realistic.

To my current clients:

If somebody contacts you claiming to work with me or Master Your Money, and it did not come directly from me or my official office number, please treat it with caution and let me know immediately.

I do not make use of random call centres to contact clients.

To the public:

Never give your ID number, banking details, OTPs, or personal information to an unsolicited caller.

A proper debt counsellor should explain the process honestly and professionally — not make unrealistic promises over the phone.

If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Important notice:

Before signing up with anyone offering debt counselling services, make sure that the person or company is properly registered with the National Credit Regulator (NCR).

Only registered debt counsellors are legally allowed to provide debt counselling services in South Africa.

Unfortunately, there are instances where individuals advertise debt counselling services without the required registration. This can place consumers at serious financial risk.

Before you proceed with any service, you should always:

* Confirm that the person is a registered Debt Counsellor
* Ask for their NCR registration number
* Verify the registration directly with the National Credit Regulator

Debt Counselling can be a very effective tool when handled correctly, but it is important to ensure that you are dealing with a properly authorised professional.

If you are unsure about someone offering debt counselling services, take the time to verify their credentials first.

This week, “Melissa” received her Debt Review Clearance Certificate.

A few years ago, she was overwhelmed. Accounts were in arrears. Collection calls were constant. The pressure was real.

Today, that process is complete.

In terms of the National Credit Act, her debt review status will now be removed from her credit profile. The structured repayments are finalised. Her obligations under the programme have been honoured in full.

She did not escape her debt.
She completed the process.
