The RMB/BER Business Confidence Index edged down from 39 to 38 in the third quarter of 2026, with manufacturing confidence at 27.

The movement was small, but it is a useful reminder that operating conditions can shift quickly

A Cup of Awareness

October holds a special place within OLEA South Africa. Each year, we take time to come together, support one another, and raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection.

This year's theme was High Tea, where our team enjoyed an afternoon of connection and creativity, decorating their own teacups as a reminder that caring for ourselves is just as important as caring for those around us.

Just as a teacup needs to be looked after to be enjoyed time and time again, our health deserves the same attention. Breast cancer awareness is a reminder to prioritise regular check-ups, know the signs, and encourage the women in our lives to do the same.

Together, through conversation, support and awareness, we can make a difference. 💗

R166 billion has been committed by French companies to South Africa since 2019. But investment at that scale brings risk that needs to be considered from day one.

This week, members of the OLEA South Africa team attended the 5th French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Johannesburg, hosted by Business France, FSACCI, the French Embassy and CCEF.

The discussions focused on opportunities across energy, infrastructure, water, logistics, manufacturing and digital. For OLEA, one message stood out clearly: risk structuring cannot be treated as something that comes later. It needs to form part of the investment case from the start.

Founded in Paris and operating across 27 African countries, OLEA supports French companies investing on the continent, as well as South African businesses expanding into Africa.

As more long-term, cross-border projects take shape, understanding the exposures upfront will be critical to building stronger, more resilient investments.
