On this Human Rights Day, let us remember the words of our beloved Madiba: "For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others."
Let us honour his legacy by standing up for human rights, today and every day.
We imagine if Madiba was still with us today in person, that he would be saying:
“My dear friends,
Today, on this auspicious occasion of Human Rights Day in South Africa, let us remember the struggle and sacrifices of countless brave individuals who fought for our fundamental rights and freedoms.
As we celebrate this day, let us also reflect on the challenges ahead. Let us renew our commitment to upholding every person's dignity and worth, regardless of race, gender, religion, or social status.
The fight for human rights is not an easy one. It requires courage, determination, and a deep sense of compassion. But we must never lose hope, for every step we take towards a more just and equal society brings us closer to the ideals of freedom and democracy that we hold dear.
Let us stand together, hand in hand, as we continue to strive towards a South Africa that is genuinely free and fair. Let us work towards a future where every person has access to the opportunities they need to thrive, and where every voice is heard and respected.
On this Human Rights Day, let us remember the words of our beloved Madiba: "For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others."
Let us honour his legacy by standing up for human rights, today and every day.
Yours in solidarity.”
Happy Human Rights Day
