I’m sure you’ve been hearing rumblings in the news, on social media, and elsewhere about rising interest rates and market volatility, so we wanted to share a quick update on what’s happening and what it could mean for mortgage rates.

Mortgage rates are moving higher because financial markets are reacting to growing tensions in the Middle East and concerns that inflation could stay elevated. Rising oil prices are adding to those inflation worries, which has pushed Treasury yields higher.

Since mortgage rates often follow the movement of the 10-year Treasury, this increase is putting upward pressure on home loan rates as well.

Investors are also waiting on several important economic reports this week, so markets may remain volatile until there is more clarity.
