The most common thing we hear in October: “We meant to start earlier.”

You still have time to skip that conversation. The compressed version takes about 25 minutes of actual effort spread over two weeks, and Step 1 is a single email you could send before your next meeting.

Renewals are in. Now your employees need to know what’s changing, how to compare their options, and when to decide.

That’s a sequence, not a single announcement. So we mapped it out:

→ 7 emails, from first notice to final deadline
→ Exact send dates across 3 weeks
→ Subject line formulas that get opened

Copy, paste, send. Free download at the link in bio.

Your renewal number lands in ~6 weeks. It’s an opening offer, not a final answer.

But leverage takes prep: claims data, benchmarking, alternative quotes. All of it starts now, not October.

Swipe for the timeline. Save it for September. 📌

Some of the best conversations don’t happen in an office.

We were proud to be the cigar sponsor at this year’s Everhart Advisors Sporting Clay Classic, great shooting, great ci**rs, and even better company.

Thank you to Blackwing Shooting Center for putting on a first-class event, and to everyone who stopped by to talk business, family, and everything in between. Grateful to be part of a community like this.

See you at the next one. 🤝

What would we change about health insurance?

Transparency. Not as a buzzword, as a requirement.

Most employers can’t tell you what drove their renewal or what their broker gets paid. That isn’t a knowledge gap. It’s how the industry is built.

Our job is making you the most informed person in the room when the renewal shows up.

Send us your renewal letter. We’ll show you what’s in it.

What does an unexamined renewal actually cost?

For one 76-employee logistics company we modeled, the answer was about $140,000 a year in overpayment their broker never flagged. Different group, different number, but the pattern repeats: fully insured plans this size carry costs nobody explains.

We run the claims benchmarking and funding analysis the big groups get, sized for 25 to 150 employees. Sometimes there’s nothing to find. Sometimes it’s six figures.

A 15–20% gap between two health plan quotes isn’t the whole story.

Don’t call the cheaper one a win, ask what actually drives the number. Fully insured bundles claims, taxes, and carrier margin into one premium, and a good claims year rarely comes back to you. Level funding separates those costs, and if claims finish low, the contract may return the surplus.

Compare the real math: identical benefits and networks, expected cost, maximum cost, exclusions, and surplus rules, on one page.

If you can’t see the upside and the downside, you don’t have a comparison. You have two prices.

Voluntary benefits only work if employees actually understand them.

Your team doesn’t want ten more products. They want to know: what helps if I land in the hospital, get sick, or can’t work?

The fix isn’t a bigger menu. Ask one question, “which unexpected expense would hurt you most?” and build from that answer, not a catalog.

Carrier: “Market trend is 9%.”

Employer: “We just had our best claims year yet.”

Market trend can be an input. It should not be the entire explanation.

If the renewal comes in at +9.8%, ask what portion comes from market trend, what portion comes from your group’s experience, and what assumptions are driving the rest.

Save this for your next renewal.
