If you're helping a parent think about a reverse mortgage, this is for you.
The decision shouldn't be made on a sales call. It should be made at a kitchen table — with the kids in the room, and ideally the family's accountant or attorney looped in.
Questions worth asking together:
• Is staying in this home the real goal, or one option among several?
• What problem are we solving — monthly payment, care costs, a cushion, all three?
• What does this mean for the estate later, in plain numbers?
• What are the alternatives, and what do they cost?
A good reverse mortgage conversation makes room for all of that. A bad one tries to close before your family has even heard about it.
If a parent tells you a lender is calling them, ask who — and whether that lender welcomed your involvement. The answer tells you a lot.
DM me 'QUESTIONS' and I'll send the checklist I give families. No obligation.
