CONGRESS STREET
Congress Street is named after the Congress Hall Saloon.

The saloon hosted informal meetings of the Arizona Territorial Legislature. In 1871, a meeting of prominent townsmen was held there, during which the municipality of Tucson was organized and officers elected. The saloon's owner of more than 30 years, Charles O. Brown, was chosen as one of the councilmen.

Brown was born in New York in 1829. In 1860, he came to Tucson and later built the Congress Hall Saloon on Calle de la Alegria (Happiness Street) and Meyer Avenue. In 1870, the Tucson map shows that Calle de la Alegria had been renamed Congress Street in honor of the saloon.

The saloon was passed to Brown's sons in the early 1900s. It's unknown when the hall closed but it was knocked down in 1912.

My husband lost his battle to Melanoma cancer in 2011. This is the 11-year anniversary of his death. He was my best friend and biggest fan. He was only 47 years old. Melanoma is a ruthless, evil and fast killer. This post is not about me. In honor of my husband I am here to remind you to please pay attention to anything that could possibly look like Melanoma. Get any skin abnormalities looked at immediately.
Baxter had a brown spot on the tip of his ear that metastasized to lymph nodes and then brain tumors over the course of 1 year.
He had four things he wanted us to remember. Be Happy, Learn, Tell the truth and Save money. it sounds like sound advice. I hope in my lifetime I see a cure for cancer. I miss him every day.💔
