๐๐๐ซ๐ค๐๐ญ ๐๐ฉ๐๐๐ญ๐! ๐ ๐
Happy Friday, everyone! Let's talk about what's happening in the mortgage and bond markets โ because it's A LOT.
๐น New Fed Chair Kevin Warsh officially started today, and the bond market is already testing him. Yields are rising, and all eyes are on whether he'll take a tough stance on inflation. If he does, it could actually help long-term rates come down over time โ but the short-term road may be bumpy.
๐น Oil prices are surging due to tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, and that's fueling inflation fears. Hotter-than-expected CPI and PPI reports this week only added to the pressure. When inflation runs hot, mortgage rates feel the heat too.
๐น Global yields are soaring โ the UK, Japan, and Germany are all at multi-year highs. Japan's 10-year yield hasn't been this high since 1997! Our own 10-year Treasury is pushing past key resistance levels, which signals rates could stay elevated for a while.
